Tell Me About Your Time Off Policies

I charge a fixed fee. It is the same 52 weeks (or 12 months) per year no matter what. (My two older families, who have been here 10 yrs and 8 yrs, pay monthly, and my newer ones pay weekly.) Same fee every check they write. Unless I up my rates!

It is a set amount that does not change for the kids' sicknesses, the parents' sicknesses, the families' vacations, or taking the kids to Aunt Betty's for the day. It doesn't change for my sicknesses, my vacations, or my emergency leaves.

I take 8 major holidays, and 8 vacation days every year. I type up a list that they get by December 1st, which tells all the holidays and closed days for that following year. They each get a copy, and a copy is placed on the inside of my front door. I plan all 16 days ahead of time, and it will not change as the year goes on. If I have an emergency, my families have all been here long term, and are extremely understanding and accommodating. I don't subtract for anything.

All major holidays
5 - paid sick days
5 - 1/2 days (where I close early)

Parents pay the same, regardless if their child is here or not (sick/vacation)

I take most major holidays off (including the day after Christmas and Thanksgiving)- I think about 10 total. Then I can take up to 10 personal/sick days a year. I give my families a week's worth of vacation days after their first 6 months. I've only had 1 family take any unpaid days so far- but one of my current families is planning on time in December or January.
I also do not have any kids on Fridays so I never have to count a Friday as a day off happyface I have usually just taken a day here and there- once I took 2 days off for a Th-Mon vacation to my in-laws out of state.

This has been a trend around here for awhile. I had a provider for years who switched to no Fridays. I was like :confused: what am I supposed to do? I had to find a provider for only Fridays, went through like 3 providers trying to find the right fit for ONE day! Ugh! One of my clients has a friend who does daycare and is closed Fridays. Another closes at 4 on Fridays. It's just crazy to me because I don't know but 1 business (a doctor) who does this and it's for a specific reason. Last year I had Wednesdays off but only due to my clients all having it off not by choice.

I have 4 weeks off 1/2 pay per year. Two weeks at Christmas/New years (or whatever the school break is). I also take off all major holidays- paid.
Full time families get 5 days half pay w 30 days notice. I get no paid personal/sick days and they get none.
