    Providers/ Teachers Getting Ill

Today I woke up barely able to breathe through my nose. I have also been coughing for 2 days. This is the 3 rd time since I started in a daycare center about 3 months ago, that I have gotten sick. I do wash my hands, a lot. I am currently working with the older tots, but am moving to infants in 2 weeks. How do I keep from catching everything ? Does the Airborne medicine( or whatever it is ) really help ? Right now I have been trying to eat lots of veggies, stay hydrated and rest when I can. I do get enough sleep, and I don`t smoke, drink, etc. Any other ideas ? I am registered on this site, but can't stay logged in for some reason .

My wife and I just tried the Airborne medicine recently... and I vote yes, it works. I was still sick but for me a good cold lasts 3-4 days. Always. Everytime. This last one I felt better in 2 days.

If this is your first year at a daycare, just trust that you will pretty much catch everything going around this winter.

Just invest in some good vitamins, get plenty of sleep and make sure to eat decent and drink water, like you've been doing.

Coming from someone on her seventh year of center care and three years in an elementary school prior, its the best thing you can do, other than making sure your room is sanitized and sick kids stay home. And calling out when you truly need to.

      HTH.

And Airborne does work, just make sure to take it the second you start feeling icky.

We have gotten sick more this year too (year 5 for us). I read on here about airing out the house so we are going to start doing that 3x a day. Plus I have ramped way up on strictly enforcing my sick policy.

I second everything Hunni Bee said (except the Airborne, never tried it so I can't say). I practically grew up in daycare, because my parents co-own a center, and I have been working there since I was 16. I always had a pretty fantastic immune system. But, a couple years ago, I was out for the better part of a year with a serious knee injury and when I came back, I was sick constantly for about a year. Now that I have been back for awhile, I don't get sick nearly as much or for as long. It will get better!

ETA: For a cold with a cough, I always use a mixture of honey and lemon juice. Mix about 1 part each and take a spoonful a couple times a day (especially in the morning and right before bed). The honey helps coat your throat to reduce cough and the lemon juice does something, but I don't remember what (vitamin C maybe?). I started adding cinnamon to it because it has some health benefits too.

Personally I take a B Complex vitamin with breakfast every morning. It has drastically reduced how often I've been sick.

Other then that, keep doing what you're doing. The first year I worked in child care I was sick more often then I was healthy. It's the nature of the beast.

Vitamin D! Most people are deficient in vit d and deficiency is linked to more illnesses. I take it daily and twice a day if I'm exposed to cold or flu. It's inexpensive too! I buy the tasteless drops and everyone in my family now takes them.

Make sure you are exercising, too. I truly believe it helps boost your immunity. The first year I watched kids in my home was the worst for us illness-wise but since then no issues. Hope you feel better soon!

I am closed today due to being sick. UGH!

I am going to have to get some vitamins per the great advice above.
