    Filling Spots

I think I have myself in a pickle. I have a 12 year old that I get off the bus Mon, Thurs, and every other Fri at $100.00 a month. On the days that there is no school, I have her all day at my daily rate. Where I live, I can have 2 extra part time school age kids during the school year. I have everything lined up to start back up in jan, (and I will be full) However, one of my full time kids, The parents asked if I could take her older brother while there is no school as well as summer time. for the summer it will be full time. I just realized I will eaither have to keep 1 spot open during the year so that in the summer I won't be over on kids, Or choose who to keep over the summer because the 12 year old puts me 1 over (just during the summer) what would you do to handle this. Business wise, I would rather make $120.00 a week during the summer months instead of the $40/$60 I would make for the 12 year old. But morally, she was here first. Any advise on how to handle this would be great. Thanks

I know I am different that a lot of providers but since this is my business, money ALWAYS trumps loyalty or longevity.

If you are going to lose money by "saving" space for one kid, I wouldn't do it.

Which ever family brings me the most amount of money would be the family I would keep/accommodate.

The money would win for me. Even though the 12 was here 1st you could also reason that siblings get 1st priority.

Do 12yr olds count in your ratio? You may want to double check with your agency but in CA they don't count over 10.

I'm not sure. I have never thought of that. I just assumed she would. I will call Monday and find out! Thanks

                Your state requirement say:

"A child care facility in which care is provided for a maximum of ten (10) children under 16 years of age and includes children under eleven (11) years of age related to the provider. This total includes children under eleven (11) years of age related to the provider. The total number of children in care at any one time is based on the ages of the children in care."

I take that to mean ALL children up to age 16 count in your licensing ratios unless the child is your own and in that case they only count until age 11.

Yes I just read that on my Licence. OH well I will just have to let them know that during the summer months, I can't take her and I can resume when school starts.
