    No Drug and Drop Here!

I have a new family (been here 7 weeks). She came in this morning with a really cranky baby (12 months), fussy, whiny, but no fever. She said she thought he was cutting teeth. We've had croup going through (he was the first one), so my first thought was that he had already had meds and she was going to drop and run. Before I could clearly formulate that thought and ask, she pulled Tylenol out of the bag and said, "I waited until I got here to give him this so that you wouldn't think I was trying to pull something." It may really have been teeth because he settled down and was a happy bear all day long.

I had a parent who did that once. I think she somehow thought that if you were honest about giving the medicine, it didn't count as "dope and drop".

Personally I am fine with it as long as the parents are open with me about it, the original fever was under 102, no other big symptoms and they understand they may get a call in 4-6 hours.

I worked out of the home before it was easier to get out of work by coming in and having the daycare call work.

She's already figured out that I would have called in a minute if his temp had gone up at noon, but it didn't. And, she's an awesome mom with an awesome boss, so she would have kept him home in a minute if we felt it was really something of concern. In this case, I think it really was teething.
