Annoyed with last minute notices from dcps!

I had 9 kids scheduled for today. 4 have called off because their parents have the day off. Really? You couldn't plan ahead and figure this out until 8:30am Monday morning?

The reason this annoys me is because my assistant had the day off from school today but we talked yesterday about how I still needed her to come today. Well, now I don't need her! She could have planned something or enjoyed a whole day off.

    So Frustrating!

This is why I always casually bring up "what are your plans for the weekend?" "Does your company get to take the holiday?"

I try to remind them before the day comes ... and see what their plans are or if they are working.

Could you let your assistant just leave for the day, and explain what happened?

    Good luck today!

Yes, I let her go. I just wish these parents would get their poop in a pile!

Don't you require the parents to submit a weekly, bi-weekly and/or monthly schedule to you?

My families are required to submit a weekly schedule on Friday for the upcoming week. If they don't, I count them as absent anyways and will/do not provide care for them.

If they schedule today and then call off, they are still required to pay for it so I basically get paid for watching no one.

I'm sorry your families are so inconsiderate of you and your time.

Most of them have set schedules, Monday - Friday so they just let me know when they have a change (in theory!) Usually this happens the week before and not the morning of!

I am still getting paid though so that is the good part.

Oh okay...well in that case, I have them write down a master schedule upon enrollment. I then tell them that if there are any days in which they are off or the schedule is not the same, they need to tell me on Friday BEFORE the upcoming week.

If they don't notify me of their off day, I make a note of it. Once they have failed to notify me of the schedule change 3x times, I require a written schedule weekly REGARDLESS of whether the schedule is the same or not.

Bottom line it is rude and disrespectful to simply assume your provider is always waiting and available or "could have" made other plans since some kids wouldn't be showing up or needing care.
