    Would You Entertain This Idea?

I have a dck who is 3.5 yrs old. Has been with me for about 2 years.

Off and on for months we have been having issues with eating times. It will be really good one week and then horrible the next. The child is PT, so I don't deal with it too much.

What happens is that as soon as the kid sees the food on their plate that they don't like, it results in instant scream crying, removal from table due to screaming and then sometimes they scream until they puke. The thing is, one day the kid likes the food, the next they are screaming.

DCP are in complete disbelief that the child does this. They asked me if I could video this so that they can see it for themselves. It's not that they don't believe me, they want to see it, so that they can help me resolve the issue.

Would you do this for a family if they requested it????

I am stuck on what to do with this situation. like I said it was happening a few weeks ago, then stopped and now it's happening again.

I see no problem in filming the tantrum then sending it to the parents. I had a similar situation the parents asked for a video so I recorded it and sent it to them. I asked permission to show it to the child. He watched it in disbelief. We never had an issue after that!

I can see no harm in doing the video. I would do it if the parents were willing to supply the equipment.

I have a kid who cried when he saw a food that has made him throw up in the past...when I mentioned it to his mom she apologized for not telling me about it before, and said that he has thrown up every time he has eaten it, never with any other food, and that when he sees it, he must fear vomiting again. No problem, I don't serve it to him anymore.

I take videos a lot so I can show parents. Mostly of the good things but occasionally the bad. It's important that they see what's going on so maybe they can help you.

          thanks for your feed back.

This situation is so odd. One day we will eat watermelon and everything is great. Well watermelon is very large, so it may take a few days to finish it. The very next day I will serve watermelon, DCK sees on the plate and instant screaming.

I just don't know what to do. I have told DCK if you don't like something you don't have to eat it, but you do have to use your words and you have to tell me. I don't know what is wrong when you are screaming and I don't know how to help you. It's quite frustrating too.

I absolutely would video it. I would video the child eating it fine one day with no problems and then the tantrum the next time.

As a parent I may also would have the same request. Not one of disbelief but wanting to see myself so I could figure out how to handle it at home.

I would video it with my phone and e-mail it to the parent. I've videod children doing a great job with things. It would make sense to video some extreme behavior as well if the parents are wiling to help you figure out how to manage it.

I find it hard to believe that he's only doing it at your house, I have a feeling he's doing it at home too.

I would film it but get the parents to sign a paper first.

whats funny is that I am getting conflicting stories. DCD says meal time is a joke and often a battle. DCM says the exact opposite.

The kid is beyond well behaved otherwise. I have never had any issues with this child other than the eating.

I am wondering if maybe because we eat very healthy. I don't cook with salt, butter, oils, etc that the kid just does not like the food here.

or perhaps just the way that it is cooked the kid cannot identify what it is?? I don't know.

Thanks for your ideas and yes I will have them sign a paper first. Great idea...
