    Odd Behaviors

I have had a child who for several years has picked up hair and lint off of the floor and eats it. Also off his socks. He does it several times a day. Also he is my pickiest eater. Anyone have kids with odd behaviors?

I've had a few kids with odd behaviors including my son when he was younger - hand flapping, a little shuffle/dance he used to do with his feet when he got excited, etc. He also liked to eat dust of store shelving, fingernails, etc. Thank goodness that phase didn't last long! If I had to make a guess on the info you provided, I'd guess your dcb may have Pica. http://kidshealth.org/parent/emotion...vior/pica.html

My dd was tested for pica. She are gravel, liked to eat dried out rolly Polly bugs and was a poop smearer... I know, yuk! She did not have pica.

I had a kid (never heard of pica, but I think he has or had it) he would eat sand (at the age of 4 still) or like the gravel in the driveway, drink syrup from a bottle. It was so bizzarre but mom didn't care. Now he's five and I notice other things with him. I think he has adhd, I've never ever seen a child who can not stand still, he even walks with a skip. Even when you talk to him he's bouncing around oh he's really bad (but thats a whole other topic which will make you drop your jaw)

Pica usually applies to eating things like rocks, chalk, dirt... things with minerals. Sock lint and picky eating sounds more like a sensory thing than pica but that's just from my experience.
