UGH...Really And I Have Time? Half Vent, Half My Fault.

I have a 15 mo. old dcb who sometimes has to have inhaler treatments. Dcm called me Wed. at 7:00 p.m. when I was out with my family. I usually don't answer, but dcb has asthma and I thought something maybe was wrong or maybe she was calling to say he wasn't coming. I answer and she tells me it's not an emergency so I tell her I will call her back when I was done with dinner.

When I called her back, she told me that dcb needs to have treatments every 4 hours for a few days to see if his symptoms subside (per Dr. orders). I tell her ok and she proceeds to tell me that she will have dcd give him his first treatment in the morning, but he isn't a morning person so when he drops off if he says he didn't give one, then I will have to give him one, when things calm down around breakfast, and that after each one I have to wipe his face, brush his teeth, and have him drink something because she was told that the meds could rot his teeth. At first I didn't think of it as a big deal, but after giving him the first treatment for the last 2 days, brushing teeth, giving drinks, I am becoming more furious with dcd.
Really? You can't get up 5 minutes early (treatment is a puffer inhalor) to give your son a treatment? It takes literally 5 minutes to do. I do understand that you have 2 boys to get ready, but COME ON! It's not like I don't have 5 kids to greet in the morning, give breakfast to, clean up them and the kitchen! And you don't have time? My fault I know, I should have told mom that they would have to give him the first one, but I didn't.
I know it doesn't take that much time for me to do, but having to brush teeth and wipe his face and then give a drink while I have other children...

And then to top it off, we are having our Halloween party today. Dcm was bragging how she did all this stuff for dcb's brother for his preschool party yesterday and they couldn't even drop off a costume or anything for my dcb's party.

Sorry, I had to get it out... I'm definitely going to talk to them this afternoon! Dad can get up 5 minutes early!
    HAPPY FRIDAY!

Yeah... I get you! Sometimes you don't know what you're in for when you say yes. I said yes to a parent's request to use cloth diapers, and now I'm regretting it. I use cloth diapers with my son, but the parent's brand are not all-in-ones, and I do not like changing a dirty insert without having the outer shell to wrap it up in. It's not sanitary. I just sent a note asking for them to provide the kind of cloth diapers I'm okay with using. If they can't, we will have to do disposables.

Sometimes you have to change your mind.

I personally think the parent should be administering meds anyway.

Every 4 hours, so does that mean you are doing 3 treatments if it's not done at home in the morning?

          I would say to mom:

"Dcm, I'm really sorry to go back on what I said, but I have found that it is so much easier for the group and our schedule if dcb comes in prepared for the day with the first treatment already done. Thank you so much for understanding!" And then I always say or ask something else like "did you all have a good Halloween?" or something along those lines to keep it light hearted.

Darn it, I wish I read this earlier! I didn't say anything at pick up. I'm a chicken... plus dcd paid me and we just got done with our party and, oh I'm full of excuses...

Yes, At 8, 12, and 4! The 12 one isn't bad because it's after lunch and we brush our teeth anyways, but the other two are sometimes hard to do. The treatments are only 2 puffs for 6-8 breaths so that's not bad, but the other things after take longer and then everyone has to come in the bathroom then they need to brush their teeth and blah blah.

It's NOT too late even though you didn't say anything at pick-up. I thought you were just doing it once a day. I would definitely send an email this weekend.

It's no issue....just email it. And if the dcb is done for now, just say:

"Hi dcm, I hope you all had a great Halloween! I just wanted to recap this week and dcb's breathing treatments. He seemed to take them well and hopefully is on the road to recovery. In the future, I do ask that dcb comes in ready for the day with the first treatment already administered so that we can stay on schedule as much as possible. Thanks! I hope you have a great weekend!"
