    18 Months and Saying...

...Punta. His mom informed me of it last night. His fathers family is Brazillian and he has recently been banned from their household because his uncle is bringing undesirable substances into the home and smoking cigarettes inside and apparently teaching him bad words in their house hold language... I never noticed it before because all other words he speaks besides "sapeta" which is binky. Now that she told me he was saying it I figured out what his mumbling is.... He randomly says "Punta, punta, punta, punta PUNTA!!!!" He has been saying it all. day. long. What do I do?

:: sorry to laugh at this, but it 's funny since I don't have to deal with it. In my experience with kids bringing in bad words, I ignore it. The more of a response, either scolding or laughing, makes the child say it more. I also try to find a word like it (ex. For the "s" word I will say "ship ") and say it right afterwards so the other kids think it 's just the child saying the word the wrong way. 18 months old ....wow!

When a child that young says something like that, I go "oh you want a pineapple (or another word it sounds like)" and I just keep repeating it and I tell the parents and usually they start shouting "pineapple" randomly.

there was a movie recently that said "holy crab" but of course it sounds likes holy crap out of the mouth's of babes. I kept saying HOLY GUACAMOLE and the kids thought that word was way funnier.

Maybe it is. Idk. Im not really familiar with the spelling or specifics of foreign curse words and slang Which ever it is, its the meaning you're thinking of and its not something the mother WANTS the boy to be saying

I am assuming this is a bad word???

if so, ignore it. I would just not blink an eye and move on.
