Wondering if any of you have advice, though I suspect this is just 3yo behavior and ignoring it may be the best solution.
My dcb (3yo) is highly competive. As in push and shove others to be first, throw a fit if everyone was give him attention when he demands it, that kind of stuff. It's not anything I can't handle, though the pushing and shoving others out of the way to make sure he's first/winner/whatever is a problem that I've taken up with mom and dad.
Anyway, the frustrating thing is that this kid who pushes and shoves and tries to insist that everyone do whatever he says is the one who cries the loudest anytime he's accidentally bumped/pushed/whatever in the course of normal play. He's not being pushed or shoved on purpose, like he does to others. But he just howls and wails and cries if anyone happens to bump into him or knock him over like sometimes happens during active play.
I've tried using it as a chance to reason with him, and show him that other's don't like it when he pushes them. Any other advice? I'm getting tired of the very loud wailing and crying over innocent play accidents. Yet he goes on later to push and shove on purpose.
He's a generally good kid, just super competitive. His parents have been great in backing me up regarding the no pushing and hitting rules. I just need to figure out how to teach him the proper response to accidents, and what I'm doing doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas.
