    Potty Training Pants Covers?

I have a mom who wants to put her kid who is VERY resistant to potty training in underwear. I said no. Now she comes back with underwear plus potty training pants to cover the underwear. I have no experience with these.

Does anyone like using these? Do they hold in urine? Are they more trouble than they are worth? Is there a brand that anyone recommends? Any advice would be appreciated. I haven't yet responded to Mom's email about it, because I want to be sure that I won't be dealing with urine or feces all over my house.

I don't mind cleaning up the child, but I am not willing to have these things leak all over my house.

Are they cloth training pants? Is there a waterproof layer? I think it depends on how much absorbency there is. I used to sew my own and found that they would be okay for one go but I had a LOT of layers in them.

Maybe underwear with a pull up over it?

      Like cloth potty training underwear?

I actually prefer parents use the super thick potty training underwear WITH plastic pants over them.

Pull-ups are just glorified diapers and staying in diapers WHILE training is tough imho.

I like that parents use the undies WITH plastic pants....if your DCM is sending in nothing but cloth, I'd say no. I'd suggest to her that she find some plastic covers so it actually STOPS the wetness from coming out.

She's talking about the vinyl pants. If they can actually stop leaks, I'm willing to give it a try. She is not working on training at home because the kid FREAKS about using the toilet or potty chair. She is hoping that these will make him WANT to use the toilet.

If it is just the plastic cover with regular underwear then it will most likely leak. There has to be something to absorb the liquid....

Personally, and imho, I wouldn't do it.

My plastic pa ta leaked if my DD did a full potty in them- it was nice for those "ooops, I didn't quite make it in time" moments, but not if they just decide to pee in them like a diaper.
That being said, if DCM is not doing it at home, YOU should refuse as well- I require all parents to start the process at home. Unless you are a nanny and getti g paid like one, you should not have the burden that mom herself won't take on!!!

Thanks, everyone. Mom is going to start with the thick undies and vinyl cover at home, when he starts having success there, we'll give them a try here. I made it clear to her that if they leak here ONCE, he is back in diapers until he is accident free at home.

Like Blackcat, I prefer that children use cloth training pants - and actually don't allow pull-ups anymore. However, they have to be really ready because the cloth training pants do not hold any sizeable accident. They can definitely still leak if the child is using them like a diaper. So they really need to be well on their way to being PT before wearing them, IMHO.

I used training underwear (thick layers in the middle) paired with Bummis whisper pants with my kids. I don't remember ever having a leak. I used Bummis whisper pants with cloth diapers before potty training too. I had some fancy covers as well, but for economy, ease of use, and trimness they just seemed the best.

Depends, are the undies the Gerber padded ones? If so, the outer covers would work fine! It's just like using cloth diapers.

I LOVED them and used them to PT my kids successfully all at age 1 & 2 with pee and ONE of 4 had bowel issues (Hirschprung's) so he didn't get #2 down til age 3, but again, he has a disease so may have been done sooner if we didn't have to keep him cleaned out with medications.

I would NOT allow for underwear in RESISTANT kids though. If they don't show signs and the parents don't want to potty train over a weekend FIRST, I do not potty train.
