I'm wondering how many of you have full time aides and if it's worth it. I'm at a pivotal point and trying to decided if I should take on a couple more kids and get myself some full time help...
If you can afford one, YES!!! I had someone working for me every day a few years ago. I LOVED IT!!! It gives you another adult to talk to, if you have the kids outside and you need to go inside for a minute (to go to the bathroom, to take another child to the bathroom, etc.), you can easily do so. It gives another adult to tend to the children while you are preparing meals, someone else can tend to the babies while you do preschool work with the older ones. Your helper can tend to the children while you speak with the parents at drop off/pick up time. It gives you someone else to bounce ideas off of and get ideas from on curriculum, activities, correcting behavior, etc. Depending on the laws in your area, if legal, you can take a day or two off and have your helper work all day without having to actually close your business, which, of course, makes the parents happy!
Yes, if you can afford to, I definitely suggest getting a helper!
Yes! I recently hired an assistant, about a month ago. I love having her here. She hasn't been here since Friday, since I have families on vaca this week, and I miss her! :: I second everything that PP said, it makes things much easier.
I don't know about your state, but I have to have mine on a W2, so you will have to look into that. I was a pain getting it all set up, but not too bad...she was in charge of her old job's Quickbooks account, so she is getting all that set up as well...really nice!
I love working alone. I like that I am the one who did this or that and that I don't have to ask someone later if it got done, done the right way or when etc...
In my state hiring an assistant wouldn't allow me to take on enough additional kids to pay their salary so it simply isn't worth it to me.
The costs associated with having an assistant would negate any additional income. Costs such as workmans' comp insurance, pay roll taxes, insurance increases etc ....
Needing to have a plan for if they don't show up, quit with no notice or gets sick while working.
It just wouldn't be worth it for me. Not unless they were willing to do ALL the diaper changing. ::
