I bought pumpkins for the dck's to decorate and was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to use. I've tried in the past to use construction paper with double sided taped and they usually just keep taking the paper off the pumpkin and losing it. I've tried markers, but that rubs right off. Any creative ideas? Thanks!!

We did the mini pumpkins this year. I covered the pumpkins with glue and the kids used our random box of items to decorate them how ever they wanted. - all they had to do was stick it to the pumpkin since it was already covered in glue. We used googly eyes, buttons, ribbons, random scraps...
We also painted large pumpkins that could go outside.
We also carved pumpkins as a PP had said. I let the kids clean out the pumpkins, squish the seeds and guts between their fingers, we talked about shapes - "what shape should we make the eyes?" and then I'd carve that shape. We'd explore the pieces and shapes that I cut out too. - you could then use these shapes to stamp paint on a paper or another pumpkin.- Flag

We used metal cookie cutters (shapes like a moon for the mouth and star shapes for eyes) then they pounded them in with a child sized hammer and we popped the pieces right out. It was easy and the shapes were perfect. Plus the children still got the satisfaction of "carving" their own pumpkin. I found the idea online somewhere and it works!- Flag
