I had an interview tonight for a 2.5 year old boy. The interview was going great, I loved the parents and the child! Towards the end he said he needed a drink and was hungry. I asked him what he would like to drink. He said he wanted Pepsi. I said we don't have any pop here, his statement "then what do you drink?" The parents told me he will only drink pop. No water, milk or juice! Wow! Anyone else have such a young child only drink pop? I am shocked!

This is how my nephews are... their parents know better, but just have no desire to tell them no. When they first started coming here on a drop-in basis it was a lot of work getting them to drink milk and water, but now they're used to it. They prefer water now when they're here.- Flag

Omg... seriously??
I have parents tell me ALL THE TIME "S/he doesn't drink water... only juice (or milk)" which is NEVER true, all my kids end up drinking water within a day or two here because it's all I serve.
This kid WOULD drink more than pop if his parents didn't give in.
I personally would not take this family - that's a hugely stupid decision for a parent to make on behalf of their child and I know there's no way this is the only area they are being bad parents. NEXT!- Flag

I hate it when the parent comes in drinking a soda & the kid wants a drink while all the other kids are looking on. I have to say, "Sorry, we don't drink that at daycare."- Flag

Had I known my current dcb was a Mt. Dew drinker, or that a former dcg drank a can of root beer every morning before arrival, I probably wouldn't have taken them either and they were/are my most challenging kids behavior-wise. It isn't because of the soda. The soda is a symptom of a much larger lack of parenting.- Flag

All of the kids in my care either get apple juice, orange juice or flavored milk at home (and all of them are constantly constipated!)
While they're here...plain milk in the morning and water for the rest of the day. No one drinks their water until after we're outside for about an hour and then they'll drink it until it's gone and ask for more!- Flag

I agree with PP. To me that is a sign of poor/thoughtless/indulgent parenting, and I probably only the tip of the iceberg as far as their parenting decisions go.
Saying he will only drink Pepsi is ridiculous. If they wanted him to stop, stop buying it and problem solved. Truly, that simple. I once had a DCM tell me they were really working on DCG using less ketchup, but it was hard. Ummm, comes again ? You are the buyer and distributor of their food - give her less ketchup. End of story.- Flag

acually thats funny, because you know those tweens who dress slutty. well who the heck buys their clothes and does their laundry. Its the same thing. If they want to stop the problem then stop buying the goods.- Flag
