I have a 10 month old dcg that I've had for about a month and just can't bond with her. She rarely smiles... just scans the room staring at everyone. I hate to say this, but the way she looks at people is super "judgey"... but dcm is like that to so maybe she gets it from her. Plus she's a screamer- Flag

I have this same exact child and I used to cringe at the though of the child's arrival.
what I started doing was immediately at arrival time making sure drop off was as fast as possible getting the parent out the door.
I do this currently and have been for the last 6 months. I get down on my knees and I grab the child's hand. I start with the pinky and I find something nice to say about him. I then move on to the ring finger, rinse and repeat until you get to the thumb. As I am telling him each thing that I like about him, I am holding his hand in my hand with the left and touching each finger with the right.
By the time we get to his thumb I say.............today we are going to have a great day. Let's remember the rules ok..........We hug and on his way he goes. Of course I do have to remind my gently of the rules from time to time, like let's use a whispering voice or lets be kind to our friends.
This strategy has really helped me build a bond with this child and is infact now one of my favorite DCK. There are times I would love to buy ear plugs, and as soon as I am starting to feel annoyed by him I repeat the hand method again..........
I know it's really hard to connect to everyone person, if they are a child or adult, it really is no different. The only difference is that most children are not aware that they are hard to deal with...- Flag
