I vacationed in DC last Christmas, stuff WAS pretty expensive. Love your metro rail system, used it constantly, didn't even rent a car. I wish I could move there! Nice town.- Flag

Here in Cook County, IL, where I live, I tend to charge my parents whatever the Child Care Assistance Program pay us. I'm a family child care. Currently, the going rate for infants is $32.40 per day ($160 per week); for 2 year old is $31.19 per day ($155.95 per week) and once the child turn 3 years old, it's $29.23 per day ($146.15 per week).
By the end of next year, the rate would increase by $15 per week. So, I either have to charge the private paying families the same or more. I would never charge less.- Flag

Centers charge about $65/day for infants here and a large home
Daycare that also does preschool nearby charges $63/day. Most providers here charge $45-50/day for infants so $225-250/wk.- Flag

I would maybe go $5-$10 lower than them if you really need kids. I worked in a center once and there were a few families who loved going there (I knew this because they were always complimenting us and most used the girls as babysitters outside of hours) but there was a center across the street that opened up and charged $10 a week less and some families left and went there-over saving $10 a week.
If you get kids easily, I would charge the same.
My place is in a cute historic house, lots of windows (28!), home-like atmosphere, furnished like a play house, wood floors, etc. I was considering putting "Premium Infant and Toddler Care Center" right on my signage.- Flag

I think CA and FL are pretty close in cost of living. I'm in an upscale town. Typical housing rents are quite high, wages are all over the place though.- Flag

I'd go $240 if the big center is charging $260.
I think the centers around here charge about 190 for infants..- Flag

I have 4 infants and the rest are mostly under 3. We don't have free preschool here but most children in that age are already in childcare settings or in preschool and have sahms.- Flag

I have another center across the street......they do infants but their facility is old, tired,.concrete block construction, few windows, and they are the THIRD center to rent space from the church in 6 years. They charge $215. They have violations out the wazoo......

I like the word "premium"! I would charge on the higher end then!
Too bad parents (most) don't know what to look for in terms of violations and such when looking for childcare.- Flag

I have 2 big rooms,.and a smaller third room. The smaller room can fit four cribs. I would have to buy toys for the under one crowd. Not sure how to feed them though......high chairs i suppose? Or one of those tables with bucket seats? Hmmmm- Flag

I like high chairs better. I used to be the lead in a mobile infant room where I had 4 kids to myself. We had the bucket seats and the kids could reach over to the other kids and grab their food. It sometimes posed a problem when they ate at the same time since the under one crowd ate different things.- Flag

I'm putting my house up for sale and moving!I get $20 a day for all ages. 1 1/2 years ago, centers were getting $110 for infants and toddlers. I was getting $85 and lucky to get that. The oldest and best known fcc here is getting $20 a day, which is what I'm getting now. If you can figure out how to make a living, housing and things are cheap here, but it's tough to make a living.
