I text my parents pictures all day showing them what their kids are doing. Lately I text for more like notification of upcoming events or to ask about pick up times. Appropriate? No one has complained it's just different with texhnology being so accessible. Just thought I would see what the group thought about it.

I love texting. I hate phone calls from daycare parents....takes too long and I am always distracted. If I have some lengthy to type out, I will send an email and then a text directing them to the emailThe only thing I will not do is terminate by text. I do that in person so there is no negotiating and whatnot.

I think as long as no one is complaining, they probably enjoy getting the pics during the day. For me, I would cringe when a parent would text me because I didn't have a free or unlimited plan, and was charged if I went over my plan. Parents would text, and sometimes send another one to correct a spelling mistake, and I just couldn't afford it. I finally took texting off my plan, and communicate mostly by email now.- Flag

I also text cute pics and if I have a question or usually a reply as to how jr is doing! I would rather text than talk on the phone! I also send emails if it is something that can wait until the end of the day so that I am not interupting someone's work day!- Flag

I have unlimited texting, and I let parents know ahead of time, that I will text them pictures of their child. Parents seem to like this. I text pictures, etc, they text me when if they are running later than expected due to traffic.- Flag

I prefer texting with parents than talking on the phone. I can answer when I get the chance and not necessarily when the message comes in. It's also a lot quicker. Sometimes a phone call can get into chit chat. I hate sounding impersonal when I'm trying to get off the phone because something needs my attention when they are choosing to call. I also have a closed Facebook page where I post daily menus, activities, notices and pictures. Seems to be a lot easier for everyone.- Flag

All of the parents I have text. So it does make things a bit easier. I never thought I would like texting but have come to using that instead of calling. If a child is showing signs of illness or I want to ask a quick question comes in handy. They know if I call them during work hours that the child is ill and will need picked up. Otherwise we communicate by text.
I have a 10 wk old and his mommy had to be away with work for 2 nights last week so was her first time away from him. I took a few photos with my phone and sent them to her. She was very happy I did it. She said it made her feel better.
With everything there are pros and cons.- Flag

All my parents text me instead of call and I do the same. Unless of course it's about an injury or illness. I used to be against texting and just got it about a year ago and now love it, especially when you don't feel like talking!- Flag

I love texting for sending pics and quick updates/reminders.
One of my enrollment forms is a list of DCPs phone numbers. They give me their numbers in the order that I should use to contact them during the day. And, they note if that phone can be used to send texts to it.- Flag

I prefer texting. I will only call if it's serious like accident or illness. Sometimes I'll send pics or videos. I have a few parents that will send me a video of them saying I love you to their DCK. I've even Tangoed with a parent once and the kids loved it.- Flag
