Does Anyone Follow Their District School's Calendar?

I've got a full house today. No school, which means a disaster of a house and no "nap" time for me. I'm exhausted. I need an hour of quiet, at least.
I think I may start closing on all school holidays/vacation days starting next fall.
My clientele is all work at home, stay at home and grandma needs a day off, type people. I might as well just do it!

Do it! I did! Best decision I ever made for my business/family life. I do have to be careful to budget for summer and christmas break since I don't get paid for those, but it's so worth it! I do charge a regular weekly rate throughout the rest of the school year.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm already only open 3 days a week. Might as well add some more holidays! LOL.
But there's that dirty word..."budget". I can pull off the school year, not sure about summer. But I'm seriously considering it.
If I don't start at the end of this school year, I will for fall 2014

I think that's a great idea! I set aside one child's payment during the school year to carry me through the weeks I'm closed without pay.

I also started doing this a couple of years ago. Last summer was the first summer I took off and loved it!! We had no money by the end of the summer, but I still had my sanity and was much more prepared mentally to do my job. I am still on the fence about closing for snow days as well, but I currently only have 1 dck and her mom is a teacher and is really good at keeping her home when she isn't working, so I don't think that will be an issue this year. The only problem I run into on occasion is that she teaches for a different district so days off don't always match up, but we work it out.

I've had some inquires from other districts too. I just make sure I specify which district's calendar I follow. I've had some enroll and some find other care. I'm not willing to change my schedule for one family. I changed my schedule for MY family. I wanted to be off when my kids were off of school. You're more flexible than me.

I technically am open during snow days, but most stay home. I've gone back and forth on that one too. But I figure I have already purchased my groceries for that day and have my activities planned. I might as well work if they want me too.

Hmmm. I hadn't given much thought on snow days. I guess I will try being open the first year and see how it goes. My children are the only SA kids I have, so it might work out.

I follow my counties traditional school calendar (we have couple of schools that are year round). I am closed when school is closed with the exception of teacher workdays. All of my current families are school employees of some sort.
