    Gate For Top of Stairs

So...my gate at the top of my stairs is starting to show wear and so I want to replace it before it becomes a hazard....or falls off...anyway...

I've been looking around online because no one locally carries anything that seems remotely safe for the top of the stairs. I currently have a metal munchkin gate...nothing fancy.

    What do you guys like/use?

I have 3 dream baby retractable baby gate at the top of the stairs. It is amazing! I will never go back to a regular gate again.

Could you post a picture of what the top of your stairs looks like. The walls to reinforce would make a difference on the gate you could use. We also have more threads on gates: https://www.daycare.com/forum/tags.php?tag=gates

Thanks! I think I uploaded a picture of what I have now. My husband added the extra piece to make the gate fit properly...thus my desire for something different...I'll keep looking!

Thanks! Looks like I'll be ordering one since the only options in store are what I have and the plastic ones. Dh wants to just get the same one again.

If DH is handy, could he build one?

My DH made a gate for the bottom and top of the stairs and mounted them to the walls using hinges so they swing open. He used similar wood and stain to mimic what is already on our stairs. It looks custom Granted, it uses an "eye hook" to close and lock it. But that's really all we need. Maybe a system more like the lift and lock like your current gate has would be a good option for your DH to add on instead.

Hopefully this works..He used plexi glass because we did that on the rest of our stairs. The spindles or whatever they are were dangerously far apart for some reason.

Will try to upload a pic when I can.
At our last house my husband made one and used 1x1 's to make the rails/spindles whatever you called them. A tornado couldn't have torn it up. Cost us hardly anything to make and it looked awesome.

This one looked like it would match your wood railing:

I love ours too! Everyone always comments on how they don't look so "industrial".

Thanks! Dh is pretty handy...he built the gates for our deck and they look good and work well. He now wants to experiment with some gates to some doorways now that he has some ideas for wood gates. Heh. It's like asking a mad scientist to make you a drink...
