    Bed Bugs!!!

We are having treatment for bed bugs this Saturday - ugh! I never knew what a time consuming and expensive process this could be. Never mind that I can't open all week and lose a week of pay. Thankfully we found them early, but I could just cry! And, of course, in the back of my mind I wonder if one of the preschoolers brought it in...

Thanks for the chance to vent!!

oh, man, you are living one of my worst nightmares! This is a frequent worry in the back of my mind. it's one of the reasons I do not (usually ) allow backpacks, diaper bags, etc. I do have a preschooler this year who brings a backpack every day and there's not really anything I can say about it. But usually, it's strongly discouraged.

The thing is though, that they could have come from anywhere. You could have set your purse down at the doctor's office and picked one up there. You could have had them come in on new clothes you bought, or clothes from a second hand place or thrift store. You could have had relatives bring them, or anything really.

so sorry you're dealing with this; I hope the clean up proves to be as simple as bedbug clean up is capable of being!
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

**sigh** so I just got an email from one of my parents, replying to a Criagslist ad I had placed a couple of weeks ago, looking for care. She didn't realize it was me. So she is leaving over this.

I know how you feel when you hear 'bedbugs', but I am not the person who comes to mind when you think of them. This is emotionally draining.

 so sorry! I can imagine the stress level from this! I had lice on two dck's this summer and it made for a terrible week of worry and extra work! If someone is going to leave over that, you don't want them anyway!

Unless you stayed in a hotel or at some ones house it is likely they were brought in to your house in a diaper bag, purse of even on clothes. You could have bought something at a garage sale
              It:: will wait

We stayed in a hotel in July, which is within the time frame the inspector mentioned - he said it had probably only been 2-3 months. Of course, one of my DCK's (the one leaving) moved at that same time and has been coming with what I thought were severe mosquito bites since. Or they could have come from anywhere. So gross!!

My mom had those and I felt so sorry for her. She did have to get a professional. I can't remember how much it cost but it was expensive.

Had to call and ask my husband's brother what they did when they found the little jerks in their house.

He said they ordered a product online called "Bedlam" which worked well. They also put diatanatious earth (hope I am spelling that right) EVERYWHERE. It's a dust that's harmless to pets and humans (farmers use it) but kills bedbugs.

diatomaceous I think. stupid word, that. Useful stuff though. Try to get food grade; I think you can find it at nurseries.

I think this is one of the fears among all of us that a child brings them in. This is why I don't allow stuffies or blankies from home, not only are the ones that have come to my house gross but who knows where that stuff has been. Oh no diaper bags either.
did the boy have bits on his belly and back, because that would be a good sign.

Yuck. How did you find out? What inspector? What do you have to do to get rid of them? And why do you have to close?

Double yuck. Sorry you are dealing with this. I'd send an email (blindly) to that mom from the cl ad and ask why she's leaving. Then tell her you think she should stay and work it out....

I just happened to see one on my white comforter Sunday morning. I thought it was a tick at first, then my heart sank when I realized what I probably was. I immediately started Googling 'bed bugs'! I also had a friend come take a look who had dealt with them. We had 2 inspections done by extermination companies. I closed so that none of the dck's would pick one up and take them to their homes. The exterminator is coming to treat the house Saturday, but in the meantime, I have to run EVERYTHING - bed linens, pillows, ALL clothing, towels - through the dryer on high heat for half an hour. So many loads of laundry. Then bag everything up once out of the dryer. Thankfully, the bugs are confined to our bed only, nowhere else in the house. But we are treating everywhere and paying he extra for the one year warranty!
