Evaluations

I sent evaluations home with parents a few weeks back. One mom just asked me if it would be ok for her & her husband to come up with an evaluation of their own. One where I would rate them as clients. She said my evaluation got her thinking how it's a 2 way street. Has anyone else ever had a parent do this? Thoughts?

I've never done any types of evaluation, I can see everyone here is more than happy with the way I run the show and that's all I need to know...no way I would EVER consider evaluating the parents, especially those that might suggest it, in my opinion you either deliver a positive report or that could be the end for some

Families are different, there always gonna be those easier to work with , I feel evaluating them would be like officially "comparing them" to one another could be seen as picking favorites

I personally don't really care to hear the feedback. Wow that sounds bitter!! But I run my program so it's the best it can be for me and my family. If a parent isn't loving how I do things, I'm not the only provider available... I sound like a huge a$$! But my policies aren't up for negotiations and I don't want them to think they are by completing evals.

The only reason that I do evaluations is yo put them in my professional portfolios and show them to prospectives clients

I started doing them last year because it's a requirement for the STARS program. I kind of think they're silly because if a dcp didn't like how you did things, they shouldn't be coming anyways, right? But it does give you valuable feedback that you can work with and hey, it's always nice to hear the positive comments too, right? I need to think about sending another one home soon, it's been a year.
I can't figure out how to copy/paste from it's current format; otherwise I'd share it.

This is why I am on the fence. I don't really have any complaints (to date) on this client & anything we've had in the past has long been resolved. I'm not sure what she'll be looking for me to say.

A girlfriend of mine, also in daycare, said: "No way. You don't go into any other business and ask them to evaluate you as a client/consumer." She has a point. My local grocery store isn't gonna tell me I'm amazing....except to keep me shopping there

I understand where you are coming from. My policies aren't up for negotiation either. I didn't really feel that the evaluation gives them the upper hand of "changing" anything, but a very helpful tool incase there are things they are unhappy about.

I took the evaluation form from Tom Copeland's book, Family Child Care Contracts & Policies. Very straight forward. This was the first time I sent them out. I may tweak them for next year or not

AGREE!! I felt the same. I actually sent stamped envelopes made out to me INCASE anyone wanted to totally bash me!! Everyone told me to save the stamp next year. BUT I got some really great responses (that I don't hear a lot of) so the evaluations actually made me feel VERY appreciated!

This is how I am as well. ALTHOUGH, I do think it'd be interesting to read their thoughts. Are the ones you gave our anonymous?

I've done them in the past. I always did simple ones that were like 3 questions - one thing you like, one thing you don't like, and one thing you would like to see.

If a parent has something they are really worried about, they will either talk to me or leave.

I think asking for their input leaves the impression that I am open to maybe change things they might not like.

Seeing in print that Sara doesn't like the fact her child has to take a nap every day isn't going to change a darn thing, but she may think I am interested in knowing because maybe, just maybe....that policy will change. When it doesn't, she may feel the time she put into filling it out was all useless anyway (which it was!) and feel resentful and dismissed.

I prefer to just talk with my clients. If they feel they can't approach me about something in person, or I feel I can't talk to them about something, then we are not a good fit.
