    Holidays

When a family does not celebrate Halloween or doesnt introduce Santa/Easter Bunny etc to their child, how do you go about special activites/lesson plans/cirlce time discussions? What about celebrating the holiday with gift bags/treats? I dont want to leave the child out. They bekieve in Christmas but dont tell their child about Santa. They dont celebrate Halloween at all. Thanks!!

I state right in my handbook that we decorate for and celebrate all of the Christian holidays and also discuss some of the other holidays. If I had a child who was here and didn't celebrate, I would handle the holidays the same way as I do now which includes talking about how not everyone celebrates the same way. I don't ever talk about the religious aspect of any holiday. But I will also add that most times when we do things like Christmas, I don't focus on Santa but instead on Christmas Tree's, snow, winter, gifts, etc. Easter is usually about chicks, bunnies, and eggs and not necessarily the Easter Bunny.

I don't make a huge deal about the holidays during school mostly because it keeps the kids calmer.

I would explain what I do and if it does not work then they find a program that works for them. My special activites are not specific to a holiday so all could participate. we bake cookies, make snowmen pictures.

Yes children talk but they will find it everywhere. Yes I decorate my house No the other children are not deprived

many people do not do Easter bunny or Santa those really have nothing to do with the true holiday they are secular not religious. and many believe Halloween is celebrating demons. That is why many schools have gone to harvest festivals lately.

things change When I was a child we celebrated May Day then with the cold war May Day was a Communist Holiday and parents no longer wanted children to make May baskets or hear about May Poles.

I go over that in my interview and if parents have a problem with it, they have the chance to speak up in the beginning.
