Clearly a parent has the right to choose whatever qualifications for the child's caregiver they want. But the whole "don't bother" thing, was just a little offensive to me. Oh, well

Just because someone goes to church or is a Christian does not mean they are a good person to watch kids either!

I don't have a problem with parents specifying upfront the kind of care they are looking for.

The problem, to me, is that "don't bother responding" is a rude way to communicate what they are trying to say. And it makes their "God bless" at the end seem a little awkward.

They could have easily communicated the same thing with "we are a Christian family and are only interested in interviewing Christian providers." Or something like that.

As a Christian myself, this is another good reminder to be consistent with the messages I give. Rudeness doesn't do much to communicate "God bless you!"

Maybe they think if you are Godly you will be willing to watch kids for less. Not in my case! !

Yeah, I'm so over the godly=doormat thing.

                Love one another...sure.
                Serve those in need...you bet.
Allow myself to be taken advantage of in a business situation...no way!

It basically said "if you aren't involved in a local church, please don't bother responding"

Wow, I would have said "NEXT"! Not everyone who goes to church is a saint (reminds me of the old term "Sunday Christians") and not everyone who doesn't go to church doesn't believe in God. Some people who don't go to church decide not to or can't for may (some very good) reasons:
                        1) They have to work to support their family
                        2) They spend their Sunday mornings out in the community helping others
                        3) They can't find a church/pastor that has the same values or interpretations of religion as they do
                        4) They feel that religion is a very personal thing and wish to worship alone
                        5) They feel some of the politics of church get in the way of their person relationship with god
                        6) They believe prayer is personal and don't want to pray repetitively with others in public (actually is in the bible http://www.openbible.info/topics/praying_in_public)

If during the course of a interview a parent ask me nosey questions about religion or other members of my family, I nicely tell them that I don't teach religion to any of the children. If they are insistent I repeat the same thing, that nips it right there.

Or if they try and find out about other family members or when they are here I firmly tell them I am the only one that watches the children.

This parent is a loon, and I suspect she got many nasty responses, and had to delete it. Probably was flagged a zillion times to.
