I typically have crafts ready, as well as coloring, markers, paper, etc. I also allow them to watch a show after an hour of reading, to keep the volume down during naps. With fall and Halloween, there are all kinds of fun stuff that will keep them busy. It usually goes a lot faster than you think!

    Oh...and pray for great weather!

Cry?? No, just kidding!! Sort of

I have 3 SA but I do afternoon care and two of those are mine so I deal with this a lot.

I usually schedule a field trip.

Sometimes, if the weather is good, I set up an obstacle course or if husband is home, we set up a tent in the woods and "camp out".

I give the older kids responsibilities to set up activities like putting paint on the plate.

I let them teach the littles with ABC MOUSE. Or they get to play on abc mouse while the littles nap. I have an iPad, laptop, and desktop so all three can play at once.

I even let them do story time while I clean up.

Yes, let them be your helpers! If they ever start whining they're bored, hand them a dust rag or wet sponges.
If any of them are old enough to write, give them a jumping off point for their own story, such as 'what would you do if you were the president?' Or 'describe the perfect day to you'. SA love the game Would You Rather. Create a quick but semi challenging scavenger hunt for them.
My 21 yo dd created a game(I think she did anyways Lol) where you drew a picture and had to combine 3 different things into that one picture. For instance, I could pick a horse, a tree, and a candlestick. Then my picture would have to include all those 3 elements. Hangman is a good one too. When my kids were little, I'd write down a semi long word, then have them find as many words as they could. Or I would do a doodle and they had to transform it into something.
HTH Good luck! My SA loves to play cards, Crazy Eights, Go Fish, Bluff, Spoons.

I wish I could let them watch a movie or play quietly during nap time but the regulations say that all children in attendance must take a 2 hour rest period . I am hoping to take the appke picking one day and make applesauce the next. That is if I can find someone with an apple tree we can pick

Really? That seems so developmentally inappropriate.
I wonder if programs designated for school aged only have to follow that.
If that were the case in my state I would probably switch to after school care only - no care on days off, holidays, etc. I just have a real issue with that.

I dont think the ymca or boys and girls club do, but they are also not considered daycare they are daycamps which or in a different category.

I think I would clarify this, if possible, with licensing. If you made my 10 year old take a nap or lay on a mat for two hours I'd be livid. As well as my kindy boy.

Most states require a rest but not for school age.

School age only have to rest for an hour but that is for children under 7. My am kindergarteners if here during nap time are required to rest with the other kids due to state and personal. I only have two rooms for daycare and during nap time they are both being used for sleeping children it wouldn't be fair for the kindergarteners to stay awake and play while the other kids in the same room has to sleep.

Well according to state they have to have quite rest for at least an hour. After that if they are listening I am going to let them watch a movie in my room with the door open so I can hear them I really am not sure what else to do.
