    The Start Next Weeker....

I enrolled a kiddo and she was set to start the 9th. Well parents decided to hold off and start the 23rd for financial reasons. Then the 22nd again changed it to the 30th. I haven't heard anything from them yet, but how long do you wait for people to start. She has paid deposit and first week but I just dragging it out and I'm not getting a good feeling about the relationship.

So I guess, if they paid should I just wait until they are ready to start? Or give them a deadline.( Official enrollment on the contract stated 23rd)

    Thanks in advance.for any advice!

I'd contact them and tell them you have not heard from them and would like to know a definite date they will be starting. Let them know that if they can't/don't start that date, then you have to fill their spot and no refund of the deposit will be given since you have held their spot til (whatever date) which is extended beyond the original date they were supposed to start.

I would set a cut off date. "Thanks for your interest in my daycare. You were scheduled to begin on the 9th, as per our contract. I have agreed to hold your position since then, due to your deposit. I will continue to hold your position open until Oct 7. After that date, I will consider our contract void."

Thanks guys. Hopefully she shows tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure I knew what limitations to set next time around so I'm not left waiting like now.

Yes, do exactly this. On my deposit forms, I include a start date and make it clear that the opening will only be held until that date. I learned the hard way

Exactly. If you are holding a 2 week deposit and 1 week pay and they don't show tomorrow, you start losing money tomorrow and as long as it takes to fill the spot. If they don't show tomorrow, I'd contact them telling them that they have forfeited their deposit and that you will fill the spot unless the child starts immediately.

I had that happen once but I don't collect a deposit. My rule now is that I only hold a spot for 2 weeks and then they lose it.

Their security deposit (final two weeks of childcare) saves their spot for two weeks only. It is nonrefundable. I would give them a deadline.
