Take A Child Outside Week Begins Today

First, I know it's sad that we have to remind parents and caregivers to take children outside to play.

But, I'm also glad there are efforts to remind them.

So Sept. 24-30 is Take A Child Outside Week. Since I focus on our outdoor/nature emphasis of our preschool, I'm using this week to help market my preschool. I added a page to my website specifically geared to this week, as well as posting on FB.

What are your dck's favorite things to do outside? My preschool is new, but so far, digging in the dirt and kicking balls are the preferred activities.

Today we decorated fabric bags with fall colored/themed stamps and are filling them with acorns and pinecones. FUN!

They love-sand/water table, riding trikes, flower box, kitchen/grill, trucks in the mulch.

That reminds me, watering plants with little watering cans has been a huge hit as well!

My daycare kiddos LOVE collecting things. I have plastic containers available and they fill them with bugs, rocks, acorns, nuts, leaves, and basically ANYTHING they find "collectible"

On average, we spend about 3-4 hours per day outside. Since I live in northern Minnesota, 99% of my daycare families are outdoorsy people so I know that a majority of my DCK's get lots of outside time at home too!

Our routine changes up a tiny bit in the winter months but we still spend a good deal of time outside over all the seasons.

That's wonderful! I'm in the south, but the weather is perfect now. We're using magnifying glasses outside today!

Our favorite outdoor activities lately have been the sandbox, playing with our old play kitchen that I put outside when I got a new one for the playroom, chasing bubbles with my dogs, and counting the bees up on the sunflowers. This week we have a big enough leaf pile that we're having all sorts of fun! Leaves are falling like crazy now so I told them if they could catch a leaf before it touches the ground they get to make a wish.
We try to spend at least a couple hours outside every day because I know before too long, we're going to be spending more time getting into snowsuits than actually playing outside.

That is amazing! I am always trying to figure out how to get more outside time in, but with so many littles, it seems so difficult!
