    The Doughnut...

I have a dcg here who barely eats any thing. The only time she ever eats breakfast is when she gets a doughnut and that seems to be happening more and more often. And the only reason I know its a doughnut is because the girl says so, mom always just says "she ate breakfast today" then dcg chimes in and says "I had a DOUGHNUT!!!!! I was a BIG mess!!" This girl is bouncing off that walls!!! This is merely a vent because I know there really isn't any thing I can do about what she chooses to feed dcg. One thing I do want to start participating in is the food program, but this dcm already said she would still pack her lunch. Any one else have a doughnut kid?

I have dorito boy, apple juice with a chocolate donut boy, and candy boy. Yes, I am serious. We eat breakfast here, too, since I am on the food program.

The child will tell me and I'll raise my eyebrows and say, "Oh!" The parents tend to look embarrassed but I really don't know what else to say. It does surprise me every single time although it shouldn't.

I have a doughnut boy, starburst/skittle kid (whose parents FREAKED OUT when grapes were on my menu and didn't want her to have them even though I QUARTER THEM) I have a brownie girl (who eats a brownie at 6:45 in the car and then whines like crazy until lunch because she is hungry even though she refuses breakfast every single day).

I am on the food program, I serve, they choose to eat or not. I have GREAT lunch eaters though, and they all love snack (I do fruit or veggie for snacks typically).

I'm saddened by today's seemingly inept brand of parenting.

The only thing that bolsters my spirits (somewhat) regarding this, is that kids are resilient, and hopefully the girl receives better nutrition at time of lunch/supper.

It's OK to be lax (occasionally), but when I hear of stories such as this, it solidifies what I already know in respect to the ballooning weight epidemic and rise in diabetes.

I have the granola bar kid. Specifically those granola bars with loads of sugar, or dipped in chocolate. I know how you feel.

A lot of my kids come in saying they had breakfast when what they really mean is, mom gave them M & M's or a chocolate covered granola bar....even worse....Go-gurt.....(sugar in a tube) but it is what it is.

I just fill them up with plenty of fresh veggies and let the parents worry about the bad diet/eating habits.

I realized a long time ago that parents will always do what works for them and if that means giving their kid a donut for breakfast....well...that's on them and not me.

As far as the sugar buzz that often accompanies the bad diet....well IMHO, the kids who are used to eating like that on a regular basis don't have that maddening sugar rush since they are used to eating that way and the kids who rarely get it and DO get the sugar rush....well, we just make sure we spend a bit more time outside so they can get it out of their system before lunch.

I have a two marshmallow a morning kid. His big sister announces all the junk they eat before they get here. Mom also uses treats to get him to leave my house without kicking his sister. Good luck with that!

I have this girl too. Everyday her dad hands me a granola bar, and says, "make sure she eats this" this week it is "oats and chocolate". Last week they were Fiber One bars!! the adult ones! My husband was when he saw them. We didn't give them to her...I'm not dealing with the consequences. ::

That's funny because I choked on a Skittle when I was little...and I've never choked on a grape!

                        The ones I cringe at:

Candybar (full sized, even when he was 17 mo ) boy

Fruit boy (like a cup of grapes, huge apple, carton of blueberries- who of course has acidy diarrhea often)

Always starving can't hardly wait for breakfast because they only "eat" vegetable protein smoothies for supper boy

And the ones I don't mind at all:

Cashew, peanut or mixed nuts girl

A 2-pieces-of-american-cheese girl who just went to K

                          No one too interesting:

Applejuice Girl (huge tantrums and would go whole day without water)

                          Juice Boy

                          Hamburger/Candy Girl

Sadly, I didn't bad food in my home for a long time. Then my preschooler starts joining sports, church groups, etc and they give out these treats. Now she begs for them at the store and they always say to me "oh she keeps asking for snack". Well, duh, if I just discovered chewy fruit snacks, I would want them too. I feel like a good parent because I know she eats better than most kids, but I also feel bad because now I have the begger, the one who doesn't get sugar so if she sees it, she wants it.

My dh choked on starburst when he was little! :: It was a  moment for me as the almost 2yo stands there with a handful of skittles in his mouth smacking them as his Mom rants about the potential choking hazards of grapes.
