    KS Daycare Still No License

I'm opening a daycare in Northwestern KS. Sent in for my license over a month ago. Have yet to hear anything or get my temporary license. I have nothing that should keep me from getting a license. No criminal history, just poor credit for poor decisions I made when I was younger However I have people needing daycare NOW and have yet to get temp license. Anyone here know how long KS licensing takes? Any opinions on what I should do? I'm completly new to all this.

Believe it or not it took 7 months for me here in Wisconsin! Typically it is 4-6 months. I lost lots of possible kids in the process!

I hope you get some answers soon! Good Luck!

Yes I have called them last week, they said they had the paperwork and was processing it but my child surveyor told me once I sent my paperwork in that I'd have my temp in a month.

It can take up to 90 days to even issue the temporary license. You will receive your temporary in the mail and your licensor will contact you to schedule your inspection date.

I was just licensed in KS in May so if you have any questions, let me know!

I'm in Minnesota, and I sent in everything completed and ready to go on April 1. April Fool's Day. Yeah... that's a bit twisted now, considering it is almost 6 months and I'm STILL waiting for my inspection. After my inspection, it will still be a few more weeks before I'm licensed. Right now, I'm just hoping it happens by the end of 2013.

I can only have one unrelated family in my care besides the family members I care for, so I'm operating legally unlicensed right now. I have had to turn two families away.

If I am not licensed by the end of October, I will lose another family who is waiting for now but just can't wait any longer.

It is so frustrating. The county does not have enough people to handle the caseloads. I am 100% ready to go, but I can't enroll any more families because of how slow they are. I have been calling them every other week (NICELY!), but they don't even return my calls anymore.

And to make things worse... I take the kids to the park at the same time every day. It happens to be the same time every other daycare provider in the neighborhood go there. Out of the 4 of us, the other 3 are operating unlicensed, above capacity, and illegally.

I am in KS. It seems like it took a little over a month to get my temp license. It has been a while, so I'm not exactly sure but I remember being really surprised when it arrived in the mail. I remember that licensing advised me that it could take a lot longer. It should be there soon...

I am the director at a center in Kansas and we are very overdue for our inspection. It was supposed to happen by April 30 and we are still waiting. The head of licensing for our county told us that they are very behind in Topeka as well.

If you are in Dakota County, there have been several retirements, some moving around of licensors and case loads, training in new people, etc. etc. If not, then I have no help for you.

Try going into the office and make an appt to speak with your assigned licensor. The squeaky wheel gets the oil so to say.

Hmmm, maybe that is why I haven't seen ours. I am not due but she has yet to make an unannounced visit yet. Also, we get to pay $25 each time she comes out.

I'm not sure if it's county to county or not, but my licensor said that even though from here on out my inspections will be unannounced, they will be around my renewal time each year... unless I receive a complaint and then they'll come out for that. If I get a complaint and they determine it is true then it will be $25. Basically, she wont be here for a visit unless it's renewal time or to investigate a complaint.

We have to pay $25 every visit, even the surprise ones. Its to defray the cost of fuel. We all received a letter back in late June about it. She has more then one county I believe.

Wow! That is crazy! I just got licensed as of 9/6 in blue earth, sent my paperwork the end of July (started backgrounds, training, orientation in April). I hounded them (nicely).

One thing I wanted it mention is that I started care the day after my inspection, my licensor told me she would license and it would be as of that day. So once I had the inspection booked, I booked families! I know rule 2 inside and out and knew that my house would pass with flying colors.
