I have a 100+ year old house. The floor in my daycare playroom is refinisher hardwood and I love it! It is so much easier to clean than the carpet that we have in the living room that is also a daycare space. I just shampoo'd last weekend. Gross!

Floor drafts aren't a problem for us. The floor was in good condition when we ripped up the nasty old carpet. (Now the old windows that are still in there are another conversation...)

I did buy kid foam mat pieces to put in the center of the room. Love them too!

I have carpet in the main daycare room and I really like it. I have hardwood in the kitchen and dining room and that's where we do arts and crafts and eat. I like the balance of both.

Kid has an Oh-oh moment on the floor.

Hardwoods = you just wipe it up an move on.

Carpet = you soak it up, scrub it (hope the stain comes out) and then you THINK it's gone but really it is deep down in those fibers forever.....

We just built a new house a few years back and the ONE thing I refused to have in my home was carpet. Eww! Ewww! Ewwww!

I say have hardwoods, use area rugs and replace them as necessary.

IMHO, carpet is one of the most disgusting things ever invented. Can you tell I have a strong aversion to carpet.
