    Assistance Family- Vacation Days

I enrolled a family of two children in June. I love the family and the mom is an amazing young mom.

The assistance program does not pay me what I charge the other families, nor does it pay me for days that I have off.To make a long story short, I am now going to be short about $35 per week from this family. The Mom has agreed to pay me, but I have some upcoming vacation days that also will not be covered.

I am wondering what the rest of you do when you have a family on assistance that you don't get paid for when you take vacation days? Do you charge the family for those days? I really need to financially, but feel guilty asking for it.

Yes. ANY amount the assistance program doesn't cover is required to be paid by the parent.

I understand that being on assistance means they can't always afford stuff but kids are expensive and I will not **** up the slack for parents.

If the amount is really large, I simply have the parents break the total amount down into manageable sized payments but still payable BEFORE services.

I understand that you feel guilty but ask yourself if this family feels guilty that you are going to be shorted $35 each week just by having them enrolled....

Families on assistance pay the same as other families. When assistance doesn't cover my days off, or if the child has had too many days off (more than 4 per month), then the family is responsible for payment.

Yes. My parents on assistance pay the difference between my rate and what the state pays. And as part of their contract and our discussion from day one, they are responsible for days they miss as well. I have a few different ways this works.

The way I do it is this::: say my rate is $100 a week. The state pays me $40 for that child for a week. So every Monday, mom pays me $60 for the upcoming week, in advance.

Say yesterday mom paid me the $60 for this current week. Say boy missed today due to illness so the state doesn't pay me for today (my state pays $8 a day). So, my daily rate is $20 total. Normally the mom would pay me $12 for that day and the state would pay me $8. So, I split the difference with mom and by Friday of the current week, mom would owe me an additional $10 for that missed day.

Now, if mom takes vacation and the kid is out the entire week, then mom pays my full weekly rate which is $100.00

I only take 5 holidays per year. On those days, mom would pay me an additional $10 for that day.

A lot of it depends on how your state pay works. Some states give on home providers x sick days and vacation days per year.

Here in ms, they only give sick days and vacation days to licensed CENTERS, not to in home providers.

So, I try to be as fair as possible.
