I do contracted care ONLY. which means ONLY while they are at work. If they aren't at work, they pay me my drop on rate for that day, which is significantly more than my typical daily rate.

The reason why I started that is I found out a long time ago a mom went to work for a few hours, then left early and went and partied while I had her daughter. I do afternoon shift. And I ended up having her child until midnight. Which was fine had she been at work, but not okay while she was out partying.

So, if they want to go out after work, or go out instead of work, they have to pay $40 for that day. If they are in state pay, I don't sign them into the state system and mom comes out of pocket the entire day.

With her and with one of my current moms, I have no trouble checking to see if they are at work, especially on a Friday or Saturday. And I also require the computer generated sign in and out receipt her manager gives her. Every Friday and Saturday night. She has one hour (no traffic driving time is 50 minutes) to get here from the time she was clocked out on the computer or its an automatic late fee.

I most certainly don't mind doing a non working girls night, especially for my single moms, but I won't be taken advantage of. And nothing makes me madder than me missing out on a Friday night mama night with my kids when a parent says they are working and they are out partying.

If you don't want kids in your care when the parent is not working or in school put that in your policy/hand/rule book and contract. Having a daycare is a ton of work and you become a legit business. You need to carry yourself as a business so you are not walked over. This advice was the best advice ever offered to me Welcome and good luck with your new journey-
I know its the backbone I need. I am so caught up in loving these children and the parents just mess it all up and I don't want the kids to suffer but this is business. If I don't learn now im sure if I keep it up it will only be harder for me in the future. They will only do what I allow them to do. Thanks so much for the advice!!

It is hard to have a backbone. Or it is for me. I always feel like I am being such a b***. But, like a DCM said Its a your business and your business is kids, but its STILL a business. Her mother was daycare provider for years so she know the ins and outs.

And in our state, assistance is only to be used while the parents are working.

I am in the same boat, only caring for one family so I am license exempt --- so I chose a family with 4 kids (only 1 SA)
I'd tell her it's just not working out, and try to find a family with at least two under SA while you wait to get licensed - since it sounds like you probably won't want this family even when you do get licensed!

I think its just harder because we have been friends for so long!! I even explained to her in the beginning that we must keep our business and friendship separate!!! She claimed to understand but I guess she will see what that really means. New contract has been updated!! Thanks to all of your great ideas!!! happyfacehappyface
