    Fetch?

Does anyone else find themselves playing "fetch" with their DCKs? Haha, it seems to happen often around here, but it is one of their favorite games when we go outside. I try to get them to either throw or kick the ball back to me, but they like to just grab it and run back and then wait in line for their turn ...

Yesterday, I brought our farm bin outside and pulled the apples out that I had put in there. I had the kids close their eyes while I threw them around the yard. Then I said go and they ran off to find them, bring them back and we would do it all over again. I know that one was more like a "hunt", but I still felt funny as cars drove by, hoping people don't think that I always treat my DCKs like dogs.

There ARE a lot of similarities in caring for, playing with and training kids and doing the same with dogs. ::

Sometimes on a Friday I will go hide those little 1 cent Tootsie Rolls around the yard. I will take the kids outside in the afternoon and tell them there are 2 treats hidden for each of them.... "GO!" and they do!

They lovethis it and I love watching them get so excited as well as "earn" the little treat by moving and running!

I LOVE the tootsie rolls idea.

I was having a blast watching them run around, giggling as they nearly collided with one another, and they even remembered the "one apple per kid" rule so that no one was left out - I had my newest DCG (2) running back at me full speed with 2 in her hands, when she heard another DCK say "I can't find one". She looked down at her hands, said "oh" and ran over to him and dropped it right at his feet

I had to laugh when I read this. We have a puppy we are training to "leave it" and I caught myself saying "Leave it" to my very busy 24month old today! It did work and gave me a good laugh when I caught myself!

I never thought of playing "fetch/Hunt" type games outside. I think my kids would love it. We kind of do it when we do "popcorn" with plastic balls and the parachute but that's about it.

I have done this, too! It works surprisingly well.

My DH calls it "fetch" instead of playing catch. It drives my mother nuts. But, let me tell ya the daycare kids get a huge kick out of acting like dogs, cats etc. The dcp's all laugh say how great it is that they are using their imagination.

I find myself doing this sometimes too. Especially with the younger ones, I will throw the ball and they missed catching it, chase after it then bring it back to me.

Love the tootsie roll idea! I'm going to do that when we go outside later!
