As far as I know in CA there are only safe sleep recommendations but no actual laws or regulations so even though they recommend "safe sleep" practices like "back to sleep", no blankets for infants, nu bumpers or pillows etc. you can technically still use them.
A lot of us here on the forum just use sleep sacks (large sleeveless sleep sacks for older infants or for the toddlers that escape the cribs) instead of blankets.
Thanks. The reason why I am asking is that I have a mom that is interested in taking her son here (once I get my license) and she told me today that he freaks out without his blanket. He is 14 months old. I mentioned the sleep sacks and she said it wont work. She said he likes the blankets with the satin around the edge to put in his mouth...What do you think about that?
14 months is old enough IMO to have a blanket to sleep with. 14 months is too old for a sleep sack. I don't think they even make them that large. But not sure! Double check with your state. If you are still uncomfortable I would have mom sign a "permission" slip stating dck can sleep with a blanket
