    New DCG and Outside Time

I just started a new dcg. She does not like outside time at. all. Which is too bad, as we are usually outside for hours:: But she will tell me all morning long how she doesn't want to go outside. Then we get outside and she's trying to come back in. Telling me she's done outside, just sitting there, etc.
I know she is new, but already this is OLD.
Has anyone else had this issue? Does it eventually resolve itself? We've got a great outside set up and lots of things to do - I have to drag all the other kids back in.

"It is outside time. You may choose to play, or you may choose to sit and whine. We will go in when it's time to go in". Maybe you could use a cellphone alarm to be the "signal" to line up. Then, you could modify it to "we will go in when the gummy bear song plays".

One child does NOT dictate what the other children do, or what I do.

I agree, and that's what I've been doing. I just wondered how long it lasts - it's so annoying.

I have one like that, too. Every.single.day. it's the same thing. Whine and cry about wanting to go indoors-ALL he does at home is watch TV is my guess, since it's all he talks about here. I just tell him that it is time to be outside, when it is time to go inside, we will go inside, then I ignore it.

I had one like that, she was here from about April to August. And it never stopped. (sorry)
It was: too hot, too cold, too buggy, too wet, too sunny, too windy, too rainy, too cloudy
          OR
She was: too hot, too cold, too tired, too sick, too sad, too bored, too sleepy

and on... and on... and on...

But surely there is someone who has been able to make it stop?

How did you know what her favorite idea for an alternate activity is?::

I consider myself a NO tv dc, because the tv is not a part of our daily schedule. So um, yeah, ain't happening!::

I said that it was my guess, because all I hear about are his TV shows and he freaks out when I won't turn it on for him. I can't know what he does at home, but I can guess that it involves plenty of TV.

I'm sorry, I used the wrong smiley - I was agreeing with you. She keeps asking me to watch shows too. She was home all summer with older relatives so I do think there was a lot of inside, television watching.

Seems to be a common thing on here- avid TV watcher kids hate going outside & are passive & lethargic. Weird, I loved tv (still do) but I love being outside communing w/ nature. I was also a voracious reader from an early age & could usually be found under a tree, reading.
