    Commitment Vent >(

It seems like once a week I get a comment for a child to start preschool or daycare but no follow through. I am not in a need for kids right now as I am full but could take two more for preschool beacuse my sa's are not here. I get asked all the time told a start date and then something always comes up. It is so frustrating.

It is understandable, and parents just don't seem to get the preparations that go into accepting another child. May I suggest, in the future, to not give a start date until you have a deposit in your hand? Simply tell the parents that you must have a deposit (non-refundable) before you can make room for their child.

      ^^^ Pay to play.

If there is no *cost* to them, they assume there is nothing *owed* to you.

That is how I do it I dont hold a spot with out registration fee and deposit paid. The problem is they say the will come by and pay deposit on this day to start the next day and nothing ever happens it is just frustrating.

I just wouldn't consider it a commitment if no deposit was left in the future. I would also be certain to inform the parents that you will continue to actively try to fill the space until the deposit is in your hand. You could send a thank you note to the family for taking the time to interview, and just ask them if there were any other questions or if they decided not to use your services, ask if they would care to share why so that you can continue to improve on the quality of services/care that you offer. Really, you don't have much to lose if you feel that they are not coming through with the deposit.
