I have two cousins that do not eat much at all.The oldest has always been very picky about what she will eat; the younger one has just started being so. I do sort of encourage all kids to sit at the table till all are done eating but these tow just get down.I do tell them that if you are not going to eat then you need to go sit in the toyroom(this is so they do not distract the eaters). The oldest would drink all the milk you serve and more if allowed. The youngest, not a drop. It's always been my way that if they do not eat lunch then that is the snack that day. This means that on some days they will eat nothing all day. When the school agers come in and get their snacks or leftovers from their own lunches the non eaters want that. Some times the older sibs (schoolagers) will share but I don't encourage that. I don't feel that rewarding not eating is good. These are kids that will go to grandmas on some mornings and she will bring them much later in the am so they have had breakfast at home and then also at Gmas. I realize they are getting food but pancakes or waffles and syrup or cocoa wheat every day is not the best diet. How do you all get kids to eat anything or just even something. It seems that in all my yrs of daycare I always have the picky eaters. I'm so tired of throwing food out and wasting it that it makes me crazy. I have a provider friend that started getting her families to send lunch...now she prepares 7-10 diff. meals each day each time( and the meals are salt/sugar heavy, super processed). I am not going there...we all get the same meal at the same times. I try to have at least one thing per meal that each child loves(or used to). thanks all.
