I have had a foster child. When I went through my foster training I was told no to having both licenses. They frown upon it. Because as a Foster parent you have to take these children to several meetings, appointments,be there for all needs etc.... and being committed to home childcare really makes that hard to do. My situation they made an exception because of the circumstances of my case. Many Foster children have been through a lot that most kids have not and it can be very hard to blend them together not only for your clients, the kids and the foster kids and the parents of the foster kids. These children are taken away from parents for a reason and the goal is to reunite them with the bio parents. Bio parents are often not people you would want hanging around your home and your daycare or even be allowed to have in your home. The two jobs clash and having been a foster parent I can understand this from a first hand perspective. For some that I have seen on here it works out very well. You would have to check on your states rules and regulations.
Foster parenting is a wonderful thing but if you are hoping to adopt esp a baby it often does not happen. The goal of fostering is to reunite parent and child. Its heartbreaking when you watch this happen and you know the child is not going to be in a better place or even good place, but is mandated back.
