    Laminate flooring driving me insane

We built our home about a year and a half ago, I won't even go into all the ways we were screwed over. Anyway they obviously used the cheapest padding ever. Every toy dropped hurts my ears. You can hear it all through the house. And it of course wakes sleeping babies. I'm about to spend a small fortune on area rugs. Any one else have to do something similar? Have a specific rug you love? Ps I really don't want to spend a ton.

not all laminate has that thin piece of foam under it. And it is not for sound control anyway. Hardwood floors can be loud and it echos. Try some white noise near the baby like a fan or radio.

How about some foam playmats? They come in all kinds of colors, primary or subtle, and can be wiped off with bleach wipes with no fading. You could make "area rugs" out of them.

My laminate does not make loud noises. My MIL installed the same kind in her home, and hers does. Same sub-floor as well. The only thing we can attribute it to is the layout of our rooms. Her house is very old and each room is essentially a closed off square, mine is open floor plan. Her ceramic tile is TERRIBLE as well, mine is fine.

I second the foam play mats, really durable, easier to clean than area rugs and around $20 (just saw them at WM for under 20).
