Closed, Now Need To Have A Sale!!

    Hello,

I closed my day care after 22 years this last summer. Now I need to spend some time organizing for a HUGE sale of everything!
I have tons of toys and games, but also some big pieces of commercial equipment. Buggies, climbers, shelving, tables, diaper table, you name it, I probably have it!

My question is, what is a reasonable amount to ask for things? Especially the bigger more expensive items? Do you figure 1/2 of what it was new? I want to sell, but need as much as I can get for things!

    Thanks for the help.

I always seem to go with what I would pay for a used item if I would really like to have it. I tend to go low so I wouldn't be sitting with things after the sale though.

You could also go with "Make me an offer" but have in your mind a bottom price that you would not go below.

        I am near Lancaster, PA.

I want to be fair in pricing, but with closing and retiring, really need to get as much as I can out of things. I know many providers don't have a lot of extra money to buy equipment, but like a $900 stroller... I am thinking of asking $400...

        Maybe centers would buy??

Make sure you advertise like crazy. Our CCRRN will send out a notice to all providers in the area if you ask them to, so I'd contact them. They had lines out the door for the last sale they advertised happyface. I'd do some research as far as pricing, but don't be afraid to put a decent amount on things. I'd probably also put up a sign that offers will be considered. Good luck!

You can also take a list of people interested in an item and their offer and if you don't sell it call the list.

I typically won't pay more than 30% of what it is new. Check out craigslist or any facebook garage sale pages and see what things are going for. Good luck!

Facebook and Craigslist!! I am fairly cheap...meaning I look for a bargain. I personally wouldn't pay $400 for a used stroller because frankly I don't care how much it was new...its used now. I find I will pay more via Craigslist or Facebook. I don't know why its probably some sub-conscious thing.

If you do a yard sale in my opinion people are looking for a bargain. I say set prices as that gives you and others something to work with.

I would pay $400.00 for a $900.00 stroller in a heartbeat, as long as it was in good condition! I am looking for one right now!

                    Good luck!

Rule of thumb-you can always come down in price!

Depending on condition, 10%-50% of new. Rate the items on a scale of 1-5 for condition, and price accordingly.

I agree with the bolded. When I want to sell a big ticket item I put it in the want ads or the like, as I find it's likely to get more bites.

I won't pay more than 50% of the original price for used. If it is in new condition or still packaged I would pay 60-70% of original price tops. Anything over that I feel I should just purchase new and get a warranty.
Also careful how high you go with some things... Yes- you can always go lower BUT if the price is too high no one will be asking.
I think $400 for the $900 original price is ok- plan to go to $350 IMO

I agree. With the bigger items, don't out those in a yard sale, craigslist them.
