I am taking on a new little baby - about 8 weeks old. Mom has told me how hard he is (and he's her 4th so she knows!). He goes to no one but her, she has to carry him 24/7, etc. I know its going to be tough, coupled with the plan that I wanted to term them before the baby was even born but can't due to finances, I am not looking forward to this. I will NEED to put this baby down sometimes. I have the FP infant to toddler rocker that all the littles like to sit in but I feel like I need something smaller for him - he's a tiny new baby. Of course he won't be in it all the time, I will hold him and put him in the carrier when I can, but are there any good seats out there that babies like that might soothe him a little??

Just a normal cheap bouncy seat with a vibrating function might be good. If it has a bar over it with hanging toys that would be great. -
I have gone through this several times. It is horrible for the first week or so and then the baby will adjust. The younger the better, I think. As much as we would love to be able to hold a baby all day, it just isn't an option.
I would get a nice swing and sooth them with a blanket or binky, whatever the mother will consider. This is never an easy time for the baby or the mother but sometimes it has to be done.
If this will be too much to handle, be honest and maybe do a two-week trial.Comment

My only word of caution is making sure that licensing allows you to have these things. My state doesn't allow walkers at FCCs and some states/cities don't allow providers to use bouncers, swings, or car seats (other then in a car).

This seat was recalled for inspection for something, so if you were to get one I'd probably buy it new.
I just use the vibrating one with the toys myself.

I would have read that to mean a bouncer like a jumperoo or a johnny jump-up so good to know. I don't believe my state restricts simple bouncy seats, although I don't use them anyway as the kids in my classroom are all at least somewhat mobile so I'm not certain. I used one with my own child who was high-needs and he seemed to like it. He hated swings though.

Even a newborn can fit comfortably and SAFELY in it. You can open/close it with one hand and it is light weight, rock-able and simple to haul around from room to room or outside/inside. It also has a safety buckle.
The liner is removable so you can easily wash it any time it becomes necessary.
I'd definitely go for this.

When I was shopping for gdd I saw that they now have small portable swings, too, so they don't take up as much room as the full size ones.Comment

I had this for dd and it was THE BEST thing I had gotten for her. It lasted quite a while and I always recommend it to new moms. But if you want something that will last past the wriggly phase I would get a bouncer with maybe a vibrating option (they take up a lot more room than the lounger) but provide possible gas relief.Comment

I have a cheapy seat that vibrates from Walmart. My littles adjust to it pretty quickly. My advice, for what it's worth, is leave the child in the bouncer, tummy time, swing, whatever you have as much as possible. The more you hold, the more they expect to be held. It's hard at first, but if you don't want to end up holding/carrying/slinging non stop, you have to get them used to it from day one. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti holding baby, but I learned the hard way that holding at first, hoping to get them settled in later and adjusted to not being held doesn't work well for me.
