    In The "Sweet" Spot

I realized today that I am in the "sweet spot" for dc. All my kids are 2 and up, only one child (coming back in a couple of weeks) in diapers. After this past year of intense training all play nicely together, mostly follow the rules:: etc. we have minor issues but for the most part, we are pretty contenthappyfacehappyface
I know I will likely have to take an infant next year so I am savoring this time.

Oh man I'm jealous! I just left the sweet spot.....3 went off to school . It's like I'm starting over....4 in diapers and most of the children now don't partake in what used to be normal activities .

The last time I had this was about three years ago, it was the best year of day care. Then the three kids went off the K and I had to start with babies again. One of whom had colic and reflux.

I don't take infants or school agers so I usually have 2 and 3 year olds which are my favorite ages. My hubby stopped in from work last week and commented "I know your jobs not easy or anything but it looks like you have a great group" and I couldn't agree more. Really if it wasn't for the once in a while annoyances from parents and varying income from this job I could do it forever if I always had these ages!

This past year when my group was younger we didn't do as much "free" play. It was a lot more directed play. I removed a good chunk of the toys from the play room because it was too much for them. I've been training them to not dump toys, play nicely/ appropriately with toys, not to play in areas that are off limits (nannyde has a great YouTube video about this) to clean up after themselves (they have always done this, but doing it as they play and not letting things get too messy) etc.
When the arguing/ bickering starts we would immediately switch up to a different (and provider led) activity. I also break out my carpet squares and have them each sit away from each other with an independent activity (blocks, puzzles, etc.) they can not get up without permission or change activities until the timer goes off. Any protests are met with a "this is what we are doing now,I will let you know when it's time to move on." I just have found that kids need a break from each other now and then and this seems to help. They tend to play better together after the separation.
It is constant staying on top of them and not letting them get away with anything. Now, I'm still "on" them:: but Yesterday I realized I could use the bathroom without having to put anyone "up" and they all continued to play nicely for that minute. The "sweet" spot I tell ya!!!!::::

What a great way to describe this group! I had all in diapers til lately too. Now two are potty trained and I enrolled a younger two who was already trained! I won't start over with an infant...just isn't for me. I am only going to take one year and up. Still tons of demand for that age group.

My group is really calm and sweet too!
