    EEEv- Eastern Shore

I live on the Eastern shore of MD and mosquito's are TERRIBLE here. I just was informed by a parent that this virus is popping up in our area and has killed 2 horses in neighboring counties. She told me this after I mentioned that I was only able to take the kids out briefly yesterday morning, because even after I sprayed the kids with Deep Woods bug spray (all parents signed off on this brand and use) the skeeters were still biting. In a matter of minutes we had swarms of mosquito's around us. I think I made the right call bringing them in, and I think I'm going to keep them in again today. The skeeters are much worse in he last months of summer and with this virus threat and also complaints from parents about bug bites, I think I'm just going to nix outside play for the rest of the week. Might even try to spray the yard this weekend, idk.. Any other ideas? How would you guys deal with this?

First of ll, our horses are vaccinated against EEE. But regardless, there's risk of west Nile here. I always use DEET before we go outside. ALWAYS.

What percent DEET are you using?? I had the same problem until I realized my percentage of DEET wasn't enough.

OHHHHHHHH no wonder!! Our skeeters love up to 25% DEET. We use at LEAST 40%. It's amazing how much difference 15% can make.
