It's one thing for ENROLLED parents to stop in unannounced but to simply assume that a required appointment is a major red flag tells me this parent has some SERIOUS trust issues.
If that were a current parent of mine, she would be a past parent of mine before the end of the day.
I REQUIRE appointments.
I also work on trust BOTH from the parent and to the parent.
I bet this is the same family that posted on Craig's List looking for a nanny....you know the family that wasn't offering money....just the wonderful opportunity to be the family slave.- Flag

People would walk into your circle time, lunch time, whatever. Complete strangers. People would randomly appear in your doorway, unknown kids would be dumped into your numbers to try and impress the parent.
You would be pulled from your kids to do tours and enroll people. Phone calls were never fielded...your cell number would even occasionally be given out - to strangers.
I eventually stopped it, but I had to put my foot down.
I can give her the address and phone number of that one. Some people actually like unorganized, informal and random.

Yes that is what she is saying. This is her reasoning " I wanna be able to see EVERYTHING on first UNinvited sight. I NEED to knw my baby is being treated right. Feed, diaper changed, treating her right, teaching her, paying attention to ALL of the kids at one time. Cause lord knows, If mine are being mistreated......Momma, Daddy, Sister, Brothers, Uncles.....we COMING.":

Some people are just so ignorant.
I just would have commented that as a potential provider, Im going to have to come unannounced to YOUR house. Just to make sure that I am treating your child the EXACT way you are treating them when YOU don't think anyone is coming to see. I'm all about consistency.- Flag

I can only agree with this if she is talking about a large facility in which the director/staff gives the tour. I remember popping in a few places for a tour when I had my first child and being very pleased with some places while others were a complete disaster. Needless to say, I was glad my visit was unannounced because nothing appeared "staged". However, in a child care home (which I operate) it just isn't realistic or even safe. I have an open door policy for ENROLLED parents and simply request that they try to limit their time so as not to interrupt the class and avoid nap time so it doesn't disrupt our schedule. I haven't had any issues yet and I love when they pop in early and see us in the middle of crafts or a science project, etc. I think it helps me feel some type of accountability as well to have in the back of my mind that the doorbell could ring at any moment. If this is a "friend" I'm sure you educated her on the issues of safety, classroom management and privacy policies to rid her of that ignorance. Happy Hump Day everyone!! ::

This post made me think for future. I wonder what families would think if we were to let a total stranger come in during the middle of our days. So far ive done some interviews in the day time but im jsut starting our. This will make me think for the future when i have many kids what I will do- Flag

I need to use the term gongshow daycare more often, as in I'm not sure what type of gongshow daycare you think I'm running here, but...
Also, walking into someone's home unannounced while people are present is called a home invasion. It doesn't matter what type of business they're running inside. Otherwise my residential area would be zoned commercial and the sign hanging above my door would read, "Target."- Flag

This thread has me giggling the whole way through.
First off, the text talk drives me crazy and I was cringing the whole time I read that.
Secondly, no. Just no. Every single person I interview has to schedule an appointment because I am working during the workday and I won't allow strangers around the children I care for. If you don't have an interview, I don't have any paperwork printed off, I'm likely doing something with my own child after hours (either not in the house at all, preparing dinner, eating dinner, etc.), or I am resting after a 10-11 hour day WITH children present not to mention the extra time after/before work preparing things.- Flag
