    Obsurd Request From DCP's

In the past week, I had a parent tell me how to handle their child when he goes into a rage. (previous thread)

Today I have my sibling group arrive only for the 3 year old to tell me that they are going to a new daycare. Dcd of course bolted and once he left, dcg started crying. (I'm pretty sure dcm talked the new daycare up to sound like Chuck E Cheese but this girl really is beginning to understand the concept of not coming to me anymore and not being able to play with her friends. It's been a very sad day with lots of tears.)

With how upset she was, I thought it would be a good idea to call dcm and find out if what she was saying was right. Sure was! DCM said she met with a daycare yesterday and the only reason they are leaving is logistics. They keep getting stuck in rush hour traffic making their evening commute twice the amount of time it should be. The new daycare is located very close to home and I'm guessing they will allow the kids to attend more than the 9.5 maximum I allow.

After my phone call with dcm, she called back about a half hour later and came up with the most insane request I have ever heard in my existence!

She wanted to know if I would be willing to pick the girls up from her house in the morning and drive them to daycare or if I would bring them home a couple days a week after I get off work!!!!

Now I know some preschools offer transportation from home to their school or daycare to their school but I have NEVER heard of a daycare provider picking kids up from home or driving them home because their parents don't want to dedicate the time to do it!!

For only being a parent for 3 years, I laugh at what they are in for when their children start school or get sent home sick from school or have to be to school early or have detention or are in activities or field trips that require transportation!

I don't know about anyone else, but when I signed on to be a parent, I took on the responsibility of providing them transportation whether that be to daycare or doctors appointments or school or activities or whatever.

This has to be the most ridiculous request ever!

Anyone else have any crazy requests they'd like to share?!

That's ridiculous! She want you to chauffeur her kids to and from ANOTHER daycare provider? The freaking gall! I seriously hope that she was thinking getting to see you will calm her kid & make the transition easier, but seriously, that's ridiculous.

Yep, I had a lady (?) call awhile back and she wanted me to pick up her son and drop her off at the bus stop a few blocks from my house. Then she wanted me to pick her up at the bus stop and take them home at night. The kicker was she told me I would have to either take her to work or pick her up from work if she missed her bus. Sorry, not happening.

wait...they want you to pick them up to take them to the new DC??

BTW I transport one of my kids. They live 3 blocks from me and mom works very far away and works most nights as well. The DCD up and left the country about a year ago so it is the DCM and a Nanny. The Nanny can't drive and so I take the DCG home every day. I charge a hefty fee for this, but I don't mind it because it is close.

When I was younger with two kids I also had to have someone drive my kids home. I had to finish college so that I could get a better job and provide for my children long term.

I look at it like this. Either they will be working their tail ends off when they are very little or when they are a teenager....As a mother of two teenagers if I had to pick what age I would like to be home with them, it would be teen.

Not every family can adhere to our hours. BUT I think that it is not cool for them to ask you to do that........pretty crazy request.

Did she mean pick up and drop off from the new dc? Or was she thinking you would be so afraid to lose them that she could scare you into helping with transportation if she kept bringing them to you?

Her way of keeping them with me was if I agreed to transport to and from home a couple days a week.

Not only is the request insane but I really don't drive much as it is...especially in the winter. They also know I'm going back to school to get my degree and am attending night classes. She asked if me, my staff assistant or my husband would consider doing it. Mind you dcd works 2 miles from me so hes still going to hit rush hour traffic everyday regardless but if I had to do it, it'd be an extra 1.5 hours of work for me everyday. If logistics really is the resson, it spells lazy to me!

so they really dont care about the kids being in the car that long, as long as they dont have to deal with it.....nice (insert sarcasm). and you know a couple days a week will most certainly turn into every day. and then every day will turn into "oh can you watch the kids at the house for a few minutes, we are running late" and "can you start homework and dinner since you are there already?"

All I kept thinking was, "Yep. Itd be my luck that I'd have to drive them home and the parents are no where to be found so we sit in my car til who knows when!"

Sound pretty selfish to me. I would say out loud to them, "I don't understand how that will keep the children from being in the car too long.."

5 stages of loss. She is bargaining.

If you take the bait, your reward will be that she will allow you to keep her kid.

Afterall, you know how hard it is for her to allow you to.

Lot's of mirrors, few windows in that house... hehe

A provider friend of mine routinely drives some of her kids home, to meet parents somewhere at the end of the day, etc. She doesn't mind and they pay her for it. I personally would not do it but to each her own

We had a parent who wanted to bring his kid back after summer but his hours were changed. So he wanted one of us to pick up 2 of his kids 30 min before we open at 7am, watch them until we opened, then take the older kid to school all for free. Do I even need to tell you the response to that?
