    Inspections/Licensing Visits

Aside from the scheduled appointments we make with our licensors, how often do you actually receive drop in or unannounced visits from your licensor or agency PER YEAR?

I don't mean how many are you SUPPOSE to have but how many per year do you actually have?

Well we have 4 per year but we know which month it will be. We just don't know the day. Sometimes it runs over into the next month though. We CAN have them anytime but it has never happened. It is always every 3 months and 1 of those is a relicensing visit. We get relicensed every year. The relicensing visit is really no different than any other visit except we are supposed to have zero things wrong. But if we have something wrong, we can correct it and she can come back.

I went 6 years without an unannounced inspection. Not frequent enough, IMO.

We are supposed to have 1 per year unless a complaint is called in and then they will do an unannounced for that as well. I always get one per year. I used to be able to know about the month they would be coming but it seems like they are running about 3-4 months late now.

            I agree.

I know of a provider in another part of the state than I am in that got licensed about 10 years ago. She has never (that's right, never) had an unannounced visit.

We are re-licensed every two years.

Here we are re-licensed every 2 years for your first renewal, and then every 4 years. I have had 1 unannounced visit this year, and am supposed to have 1. They only have enough staff in past years to do 50% of licensed homes but they have since had their budget upped and can now inspect everyone in my area annually. In previous years, I have not been inspected at all unannounced, just my relicensing inspections (scheduled of course)

I have only had 1 every other year in the month that I am relicensed. So, not sure if you considered that unannounced as I know the month, just not day/time. I have never had a visit just because.

When I was first licensed we had to renew every two years. During that time I never had a pop in licensing visit, mostly because they were too busy keeping up with renewals. A couple of years ago they changed renewal to every 4 years so they could be free to do more pop ins. Our licensor said they shoot for a pop in every few months - so 4 a year. It doesn't matter to me but I do feel bad because it seems every time she does visit, I'm closed (no dc kids).

Oh and we don't have any by appointment. All of ours are called 'unanounced' even though we know the month.

In MI, I think that our budget/resources are almost non-existent so I think that surprise inspections are rare and if they do do them they draw out of a pool. We do have to get re-licensed or registered every 3 years.

Good to know. Ahh, Michigan ... someday I hope that "budget" can be used in a positive way regarding our state.

We renew our registrations every two years and have a thorough inspection then. In between times we have one "update" visit (the next year) where if anything new is going on or we have questions they will go over. My last one was on outside time with kids and how important it is.

All our scheduled visits though and there is never an "unannouned" one except I guess maybe if you were to have a complaint.
