    Supplies

Do any of you ask parents to supply things like kleenex, hand soap, etc? If so how did they react when you asked them to supply it and how did you go about asking them?

My parents all bring one box of tissue (NO generic) and one package of Target brand wet wipes PER CHILD by the 5th of each month.

If they forget, I bill them $6.00

I approached the subject last year by saying that it was either have parents contribute these items or raise my rates.....

The parents were thrilled to contribute and often times many of them will bring me value packs so I have MORE than enough tissue and wet wipes than I will probably ever need.

This year, I had ALL children ages 3-5 bring:
    • 1 box of crayons (25 count)
    • 1 package of washable markers
    • 2 glue sticks
    • 1 package of copy paper

NOT a single parent asked, complained or commented on it.

I supply the other art supplies and will replace whatever the child brought that gets used up but each child here gets their own pencil box so the items they bring are theirs.

It's a tiny cost to the parents but a HUGE savings to me.

With all these runny noses we go through lots of Kleenex, so I'm thinking about asking the parents to furnish them.

I send home a school supply list in August of each year that includes the following items:

        2 Boxes of Crayons
        2 Boxes of Markers
        4 Glue Sticks
        1 School Glue
        1 Pair of scissors
1-2 packs of white copy paper
        3 Boxes of Kleenix

No one ever questions it. The copy paper and Kleenix last me the entire year (in most cases).

I don't ask them to bring supplies, but I do charge a $10 supply fee every Sept 1st and buy everything new then. (I have 11 families enrolled, so $110 at back to school time goes a LONG way)

I may go this route. I would hate for one of my parents to show up without their supplies.

I send a supply list out twice a year. August and January. I have a different list for children one and under but this is my list for one and over

I have a required list and an optional list.
                Required:
three refill packs of baby wipes or a case
                2 boxes of tissue
1 pack of 20 lb typing paper
1 large container of germ x
                2 boxes of 24 crayons
                1 pack of markers
                4 glue sticks

                Optional
                Construction paper
                Manila paper
                Paper towel
                Dry erase markers
                Watercolor paint

I have NEVER had a problem or a complaint from a parent and generally I get some if not all of even the optional. Ey know I'm very grateful and often they bring in one or two things from that list every month.

As of now I'm thinking everyone may be on board except for 1 parent. She always complain about how she can barely afford daycare.
