    Lost 4 In One Week!

I'm so down, last week I had parents tell me 4 of my kids wouldn't be staying after summer break! I am heartbroken and worried about finances. I always knew this way the name of the game and the danger of doing daycare, but I was so comfortable with my families it has really upset me. Nothing on my part went wrong, just changes in the families lives and finances, both sets of kids are going with Grandma's when school starts. I'm going to miss them all so much
And to make it worse we are only 2 weeks out from school starting, so anyone who was looking has already figured that out long ago, just wish they would have told me earlier so I had the summer to fill my spots.

Where in Texas are you? I've gotten a lot of calls but I'm full. If you are near by, I could send them your way.

I'm guessing its a long shot since Texas is so big but you never know. PM me

I'm sorry....that is a drag when that happens....

I would start advertising immediately as there are always those last minute lookers that didn't secure space over the summer.

There is also the possibility of families not actually liking the arrangements they already made and want to switch daycare while still in their two week trial periods.

Bottom line, don't give up hope...enrollment is NEVER a secure thing (even for long term providers

I can so relate and just had something similar happen to me...

One dcm will be losing her job, so she pulled her 2 yo son out and plans to have him stay with grandma till then, so she can save money.

Then last week another family told me their 3 yo daughter (who had been with me since she was an infant) will be going to preschool all day starting in Sept. I had been picking her up at 12:30 every day. Last year, she had started attending a Spanish Immersion Montessori program in the morning and they claimed she wasn't picking up the language fast enough and needs to spend more time being "immersed".

They said they absolutely loved me, but said they need to put her education first...They feel this will better prepare her for College! I can't even compete with this!

The part that is frustrating is that this dcg was the ONLY one I had been providing transportation for this entire summer. The rest of my S/A were on vacation. If I'd known their intentions, I would have termed them at the beginning of summer. However, I hung in there and provided care, expecting it to continue this fall when the other kids all went back to school too. They had never said a thing till last week to give me a heads up...UGH I usually have really great dcps that communicate and give me lots of notice if care is changing, so this came as such a shock!

I would bet that these families will be looking for care again in a few months. It seems the grandmas tend to get burnt out and it doesn't end up being a lot term solution. Hopefully you'll be full by the time they come running back to you though!

I lost 3 kids in one week, but picked up 5 in the next couple of weeks without even advertising. Believe in yourself & your daycare. You got this!!!

Between now and the first week of Aug is when I get new calls. Hopefully that works out for you too! What a bummer.
