Do You Ask For Drivers License/Social From Parents ?

I was on the daycare providers group on fb and someone brought up getting parents DL # or social in case they leave without paying. Do any of you guys do this and if so do you use a special form or just add it to your registration form? Since I had a parent recently leave without paying I'm thinking this might not be a bad idea. If you have a form that you use would you mind sharing? Thanks

It's on my enrollment forms as far as their dl number and social and I make a copy of their drivers license and out it in their file.

You don't need either to file in small claims court and collect.

Our licensings standard contract for care form includes spaces for both parents names, phone numbers, home address and place of employment as well as a space for required emergency contacts. That's really all you need.


As a parent I would never give my drivers license or social security number out to a potential daycare provider for my kids. Would come off as shady and/or extremely paranoid to me that they would demand such information when it's not necessary for them to have it.

At interviews I have them sign a log and write their ID. #, I also look at their ID.

It's on my contract, DL # & SS#. They can do criminal checks on us I want one on them as well as a credit check.

Too late now but always make sure parents pay ahead. I do that until the parents and I establish a relationship.
To answer your ? though, I've never asked for their social or license.

A drivers license number I can kinda understand, but SSN I wouldn't ask for because I would never give my social security number to anyone (especially with all the identity theft that is out there now). That's also why I want to get an EIN for tax purposes.

But different programs what require different things I guess, the director of my school's Child Development Center said that they require a copy of the child's birth certificate to keep on file.

Having an SSN would be helpful if you had to get really serious about collecting an amount due beyond obtaining a small claims judgment, but you can avoid all of that by requiring prepayment and a deposit for the last two weeks of care.

No, as I would never give a potential provider mine. We have been the victims of identity theft. No way, no how are complete strangers getting my SS so I wouldn't ask for theirs.

This, except I do write down THEIR driver license number as I am required to. I place it in the child's file.
