I had a spot open for fall. I had interviewed two families for it at same time. One of which is a sibling (little and sa) and ended up asking for two spots and just worked perfect with ages and all. The first family did not get bk to me right away. The sibling family contacted me and asked to start now. I am full for the summer but it worked cause i have vac kids out on and off till start of school so they took the spots. That same day I finally get notice from the first family. I was going to call and say no even though I tech could fit one more in sept (not now) but I don't think this family is a good fit. That day I was going to call and say no but the dad stops and drops off app. I felt bad marshmallow that I am. Figured it will be fine and ill make it work. But I point out to dad there was no deposit. Dad is a teacher n either has to pay two wk nonrefundable deposit or come at least one day a wk to hold spots (of which I don't have room now). He says she will call me for one day. I really do not have the spot right now. Figure I will talk to mom when she calls cause dad seems unsure about everything. No call. I hear from her today. Leaves a message. A week later from when she was supposed to call and a good three weeks total from interview. She wants to come next wk! That is now a month after interview. I think it best to send away at this point. How do I word this nicely without saying "sorry Charlie. A day late and a dollar short"

"DCM, I regret to inform you that the spot has been filled at ___ daycare. I will be sure to let you know about any openings that become available in the future. I wish you the best of luck in your child care search."
You shouldn't have said yes the first time since you didn't have the space, really, and you didn't want them there.
You definitely need to shut it down now. If they didn't bring a deposit then it is what it is. Everything WASN'T submitted so you COULD have given that space away, had it actually been available.- Flag

Well TECHNICALLY I could have taken him in Sept but I didn't click with them. I didn't like that it took so long to get back to me either. I COULD take him in Sept. Just not now. That is where the marshmallow in me came out. LOL! I COULD but I don't want is the thing. So I want to be nice about it and word it nice.
Since dad dropped off with no deposit and she didn't come this week, I emailed and said the spot filled this week. Much more detailed and nicer. Blamed it on that.- Flag

Well that went over like a lead balloon.
She said I should have told her I required a deposit and had I mentioned it when he came to drop off the reg. form he would have paid me.
Hummmmm......sitting at my table during interview and discussing how they needed to pay a two week deposit or at least come in once a week as a drop in (just for my teachers) to hold his spot for the summer SHOULD have been the clue! My paperwork with it in writing SHOULD have been the clue. The fact that I wrote on the top of their paper full time, part time and drop in rates/info cause they were undecided what to do for the summer SHOULD have been the clue. That I told them I was doing multi interviews and it was first come first serve and took them a MONTH to decide SHOULD have been the clue. AND....when he dropped off the form and I said "There is no deposit, when are you starting?" and he told me you wanted a drop in and would call by Sunday....SHOULD have been a clue. I am not sure how that is my fault cause I am pretty sure I made it clear except for drawing stick figures to make it more clear.
Said I inconvenienced her! Really? Cause you took a month to even decide. Kept pushing the start day/week. AND your husband who is home all day doesn't start back to work for another 5 weeks.....I am thinking it is more that she is pissy she lost the spot rather than I inconvenienced her! Thinking it is really more the other way around.
And my fav was a demand that I shred her personal info! Cause.....I will do what with it?? Sell it to telemarketers? Make prank phone calls? Toilet paper her house?
Thinking I made the right move.- Flag

Maybe role playing at interviews would help parents figure it out!!! ::

I hate to say it but I am happy about it.
There was something that just didn't feel right with them. And the lagging in response irritated me. Then to respond it was MY fault tells me I was right. I am happy with my lot of critters right now. I shall see it a blessing!- Flag
