    How would you

inform a family whom I took on with a varied schedule and every other saturdays that I will no longer be open on those saturdays. When I took them on I needed the extra money and my little one was a newborn so we really didn't do a lot of things on the weekends. Now that she is 18 months we are wanting to get out and do more. The dc family doesn't follow an exact every other saturday so making plans is hard because I'll plan on having them and end up not having them or I'll have plans and then find out they need me. So I either have to cancel my plans or include 2 extra kids and make sure we are back in time. This fall and winter won't be a huge problem but when next spring/summer rolls around I'd like a nice way of telling them its just not going to work out. My other families are strictly Monday-Friday but this was my first family and I was pretty desperate for the extra cash.

    Dear Daycare Family

As of August 1, 2013 I will no longer be offering care on the weekends.

I apologize if this causes any inconvenience for you but this is a business decision and I must do what is best for my business at this time.

If you need to make alternate child care arrangements and wish to cancel our contract for child care services, please follow the policies provided in your handbook as to how to give proper notice.

    Thank you

    Provider

I personally, would not give an explanation in this case or discuss the reasons WHY you are no longer willing to provide care on the weekends. Sometimes I think providers feel the need to OVER explain and when that happens, I feel it only serves to give parents the idea that they can negotiate with you about whether you will or won't change your mind...kwim?

It worked for you before but now it doesn't. That is really all they need to know. As long as you are giving them enough notice to withdraw if they chose to do so, I think you are fine.

I use that line a lot too IF parents ask for more details...

I just say "I was in the position to offer "that" before but now I am not"

    Simple and to the point.
